I , like most, will say no. yes its physically possible, but its risky. that media gets EVERYWHERE, and any particles finding a way to sneak into the motor is obviously bad news.  Even if you wrap it up great, just unwrapping can cause particle to enter. If you reaaaaly want to, i would at least do soda blasting.

Glass bead blast for a nice satin look.  Sand is a bad idea, too abrasive and sticks to parts only to fall off later.  I would remove all parts to be blasted.  No point in blasting main cases, they can be cleaned and touched up easily.

if you feel blasting is needed, go with soda.  soft enough to pretty much clean anything, safe for the motor, and easily clean and wash off.  HF sells them 50 lbs bag for $40 i think.

Had my engine cases all glass beaded. However, I stripped my cases completely down so there was no internals then reassembled. I then made sure all bearing surfaces were protected (such as final drive bearing surface) with duct tape or holes filled with a bolt, etc etc.

If you glass bead you will pretty much have to tear down the motor to completely clean it out to remove all the dust/grit.

Did soda blasting on mine and repainted, no problem.  did get some soda in the crankcase but washed it all out w/gas.  In any case any extra soda will burn off easily.

Dry ice blasting. It's beautiful, the dry ice evaporates leaving only a light dust from the dirt and grease or corrosion. I've had some transmission parts done and a boat motor done in place. Check your yellow pages.

Just wanted to add that if you do a simple google search for something like "harbor freight coupon" you can find a printable 20% off any one item pretty much going on all the time.  When I need a bag of soda I print one and instead of $37 you can get the 50 pounder for 30.xx.  Hope that helps.
