What's this '74 worth?
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:38:59 AM »
May go look at it today. Obviously, it looks like it needs to be dissembled and refinished, but looks mostly complete. Missing front turn signals obviously, and the wiring looks funky. Something is going on with the handlebars.

"been sitting 6 years and needs work to run" is all that's listed.

I'm thinking a dollar per displacement. What say you all?

Title? Motor not stuck?  If yes to both, I'd offer $6-700 depending on what he is asking.
As you know, you can spend a lot restoring it.

Thanks Steve-o for the response.

He's asking "1250 OBO"

It does have a title. Not sure about the motor being stuck. I can probably drill him on that and the compression in order to work him down.

Sounds like it's probably worth less than a dollar per displacement.

Yah, if he says it sat for 6 years probably figure over 10 years. Does not look like a bike that was run 6 years ago. Give the kicker a try and see if she will turn over. He will have no solid idea on compression unless he BS's you. Stev-o is in the ballpark $600 or so. No way is that a $1200 bike.

Looks pretty abused. :-\ Personally I wouldn’t offer more than $750. But it does have two good things going for it: a title and looks like a later production K4.

I've bought nicer for $450. Might be a regional thing.

She's been neglected that's easy to see. Needs a extra spoon full of TLC. I agree $1250 is a little much IMO.

Spring is right around the corner. I would wait till then. For 1250 you can buy a much more correct bike if you have the time to look. Patience is key.

Lol. Well 1250 is more then the 600 the bike in the thread is worth.

I should have phrased it better.

You have until spring to realistically ride. Take your time to buy one. You have time to find one. When you do, you will know.

I paid $900 for mine with 13k miles... and rode it 150 home.
And then about $500 more to make it a daily rider... (including tires)
5,000+ fun miles added to it so far. :)

That one looks like a $500 bike to me.
I wouldn't pay any more than $600 imo.

I'd give about 100.00 for it as a parts bike. To me, that bike's been butchered and left for dead after somebody couldn't fix it right.
Find a better one, more worthy of your hard earned money.
Not to come across as a smart a$$, but I been there before.

$450 in 1998. probably $5000 invested. Was in good original condition
Before I started restoring it.

If you noticed , the prices on ANY CB750 has at least doubled since 98. If it doesn't run right now and the engine spins free, you're looking at a 500 dollar or close for that bike.. You have NO idea what the compression could be and it could turn in to a complete engine rebuild to get it running, and with the rats nest of wires on the handlebars , you'll probably need a complete re-wire..

No rebuild needed, plug and play a known, complete used engine for $350.

Yeah. Thanks guys. He's asking way too much. Plus, he didn't post that add in his own city.

I'm really in the market for a CB450.

I agree with everything you said Chuck. And because of all the unknowns you listed is exactly why I'd only offer 100.00 :)
Hope you find the right bike fendersrule :)

i got a 74 with 2 extra engines(both ended up being stuck) for 400 and some extra parts i felt it was a reasonable deal... if i was really desperate i might drop 500 on that bike if the owner seemed cool and hard up for the money

I agree with maybe $100-200.

I wouldn't pay more than $300 for that, in fact I paid $300 for a better condition 71 cb750 a couple years ago. It's not in much better shape and imho not worth the cost of retstoring so it'll be a parts bike or I'll hard tail it if I can get a title sorted out. Its a perfect candidate for a chopper.
