What is a fair price for a 1966 cb450?
« on: February 03, 2013, 11:19:01 PM »
I put out an ad on Craigslist, looking for an older honda. Guy got back to me with some pics of what looks to be a 66-67 cb450. Looks like side covers are missing, points covers gone, tank emblems missing, dented front fender, but other than that complete. I didn't have a reference to offer so I offered $150 based on condition. He said it ran 4 or so years ago. Has 13k on the odometer.  Question is, if he denies my offer, what is a fair price on something that will cost quit a bit to get back into ride able condition?

Title?  If yes, I'd consider going $400 depending on if not too badly rusted.
You can count on putting a grand into it to be roadworthy. They are popular and collectable and worth $2-3000 when restored.

Hey, thanks for the opinion Steve. Yes it has a title. Pics are poor, but looks to relatively rust free. I was counting on putting at least a grand into it, probably more. I priced one side cover for this thing and the only one I saw on feebay was $200! If I get it I'll be selling my cb500 to finance the rebuild.

Its been 24 hours and havn't heard back from him yet. I hate to be a low baller with this fella. I was thinking of going as high as $300, but maybe your right, $400 wouldn't be too unreasonable. At least you reaffirmed I'm not crazy. I had no real reference on price for one of these.

I have people contacting me with bikes and they want unreasonably high prices for somewhat basket case bikes. You'd be amazed, had a guy wanting 4k for his 1970 cb350, was by no means mint, had 9k on the odometer and the clear was half gone on the motor and had some minor rust.  He was convinced they go for that much on ebay. I'm starting to think there are drugs in the water supply.

Seems like the 450 may be the new craze, been seeing high prices on them lately The 500 T seems to be the underdog these days, priced right , and you can paint them any color and even change the seat cover to black, and there you have the improved 450 at the right price .
I don't know if a bomber tank will fit on a later model 450 or 500T but next time I bump into one it's coming home just to see.

Very nice deal, I think ya stole it. Been on the lookout for those tanks lately, just the chrome panels are $125 each side, seen 75 ea. on the rubber tank pads and 35 for the Honda insignia. You are already ahead of the game and I didn't factor in the petcock, or the rest of the machine. Nice find. I'm jealous , but happy for ya.

Thanks!

The PO was a really nice guy, wanted it to go to some cash poor Honda lover like myself to fix it up, he was by no means a fool, he ran a Harley shop and was well aware of the prices parts for this thing brings on feebay.

Price was fair but it does look better than it is. Tank is the best part on it, plus the original tool kit with bag that look excellent. Fenders are dented, tool box dented, handle bars are a twisted mess, sprocket cover broken and shift shaft is bent. Hopefully I can find some parts for this thing. If anyone knows of someone with extra parts, send them my way please! : )

I really need a center stand before anything else.
