Hi Tom, the 400 Super fours. that came in as Grey models from Japan in the 90' and 2000's. I have a 400f from 75 I want to see if I can fit one of the newer swing arms on.

Hi yeah.

A little I guess. I've been getting distracted by the 550 and I've had hardly a minute to spend this last couple of weekends. The suns out and everything is happening!  I want to start putting the engine back together soon and I'm also going to get the frame and old rims sandblasted this month hopefully.  I think I'm going to get the frame powder coated in a bronze colour.

Whats happening on the East Coast?

On the east coast... not a Honda, but I'm putting the finishing touches on a Guzzi 850 LeMans II that I've been restoring for about two years for a friend. She arrived in about 25 different pieces, rusty, crashed and neglected and she's been turned into a real honey, a silver-and-orange honey!

Also not a Honda, but I have a BMW R90S which needs about 2 more hours of work before she can go back to her owner.

Obligatory Honda stuff: my 750 K1  is running well and doesn't need any immediate attention.

Wowzers, everyone's working hard and making progress!
My 500 is slowly getting torn-down, with lots of cable-tying bits together, seperating parts, and labelling wiring ends with masking tape.

Being my first build I am nervous and taking my tiem when I have time!

I have started a build-thread over on Wilddogs, but progress (and updates) will be slow!

Thomas! I still need to find a sunny Sunday to come visit!

Ok, some non-sohc photos. The 1st and 2nd photos were taken when the various bit's and pieces were brought to me in May 2011.  The 3rd photo was taken yesterday evening. It's taken a good two and a half years, but in that time I've also rebuilt my own Guzzi 1000 SP and my own CB750 Four K1 and repaired a BMW R100RS.
Generally I spend 2 hours a weekday evening in my workshop and on occasion also some time over weekends.

Mr.Paynter, come over anytime. I'm in Queensburgh.

Jeez, Good work man. You really brought that Guzzi back! That Yellow pops!  I'm just getting my 550 on the road then I'm back at it with my 400f. Progress soon I promise.  I've also been distracted by this. My Girlfriend's new/old car.

Hey now. So I haven't posted in a while. I've mainly been getting my 550 roadworthy. Which I have and I'm enjoying the "Nice" weather we've been having with it.

On the 400 front I've located a replacement stop shifter for the transmission  the original one was broken when I took the engine apart) so I can start to put the engine back together. Then onwards and upwards with the frame!

I'll start devoting my attention fully on the bike once our Business venture I've been working on get's started.

So many distractions!

Peace.

OK , So it's been a while. I've been enjoying the 550(after sorting out some very annoying electrical problems). I have been doing a few things for the 400 and doing some research.

I'm now in the process of looking for a CBR 600f1 - f3 front end and rear wheel and brake set-up for the 400 that wont cost a arm and a leg. I'm about to move onto the getting the frame done. And I purchased myself some rear-sets from Kevin at TTR.  They arrived on my birthday!

Just a quick update on where I'm at.

OK. I've been a bad boy. I had to replace the clutch on my 550 and that ended up in a whole engine tear-down and discovering that I need a new primary chain and that the previous owner had sheared one of the case bolts off. Maybe one day I'll post something about that.

But hey now this is a 400 thread so here is my 400 carbs rebuilt with new rings, gaskets and the like. And as a bonus I did my 550's carbs too while the engine is in pieces. This time I decided to go the elbow grease way instead of vapour blasting, they weren't nearly as bad as the 400's carbs. I think they came out looking pretty cool. I'll still give the bowls and the dust caps a polish.

In other 400 news I have received spokes from DSS so a wheel rebuild will be happening soon as soon as frame work. I see a roller on the Horizon within the next 2 months hopefully. It's about time too,

Ok. So i have now money as the new chains (primary and cam) engine seals and cables and a vapor blast for the 550 engine destroyed my bike budget for 2 months.... And upcoming holiday....life getting in the way.  But I have remade my list and hopefully have made my mind up on what to do next and the general direction of the build. I mocked up my frame with the engine in (still need to put the guts back in. (will also be replacing all chains and rings) Want to see how the custom bits I ordered from Kevin looked and to get myself amped to get on with it. August will be Frame and rims month. Then grinding and Hard Chroming of forks.

I'll start a little 550 thread soon. I have done more work on the 550 than the 400 now. So my plan bit me nicely in the ass. Oh well I still have two CBs and they will both be Awesome!

Did a little tail mock today. Trying to decide whether I want to have a alu cowl made or if I want to try my hand at fiberglass/graphite . More than anything at the moment it's to help me decide what to do with the frame. I want to leave the original bracing in the frame and work around it. It would still leave the option of reverting to stock if I was
 ever that way inclined.

Hi all. Cleaned the 400 and 550  engines after vapour blasting. Need to just double check the channels and yhe threads then the rbuild on the 550 will start with new primary and cam chains. New clutch all new seals and cables and rebuilt carbs. I needed to spend some time on the 550 as it is duppose to be my daily rider.

Well well well, what have we got here.

Some triple tree and flange action from TTR . Great workmanship and finishing as always. My Forks are off getting re Hard-chromed at the moment and I have a new set of spokes waiting to go into the rims once they have been blasted and powder coated.

With the speed of this build, rebuilding two other 550's and running a business. I might have a rolling chassis in another 2 years. On the plus side I have ordered new primary and cam chains and all the seals for the 400 to get the engine back together. At least the bottom end. I still need new rings, and I think I'll replace the clutch while I'm at it.

I'll post something again in 3 months I promise!

Oh and the mock up has also changed again.

Yeah he does.

I've been able to get as many parts from him as my budget would allow. I'm also in South Africa so that's about the only plus on that front when it comes to parts for the 400.

So Saturday was a good day for me.

I  picked up my forks from my local Hard Chroming place. They were in a terrible state when I bought the bike.(like everything else on it) They came out better than new. The modern hard chroming is much better than the original Honda job. My parts order was also at my Honda dealership so I went to pick that up. Couldn't help but do a  little triple tree  mock up.

So next it's powder coating the rims and re-lacing them with some new spokes. Getting some All Balls wheel and stem action and modifying the fork lowers to take a modern front brake set-up.(I used my 400's brakes to do a double brake set-up on my 550).

Here we go.

I managed to track down the original owner of the 400 a while back and he still had some of the papers for the bike. I went around tonight to go pick up the papers. He scrapped it in 1994 and took it of the road. It ended up with a few different owners before I got my hands on it.
Time to get it on my name and back on the road. 21 years in the making.
