Hondssa Short tracker...CB 350
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:49:58 PM »
I have been yearning for a proper tracker for a lot of years. I did the 750 in a rigid frame last year, but its heavy and has too much rake.

I picked up an Ossa rolling  frame in Dec, that looked promising. Has Betor forks, and good rake angle.. So i figured why not..

The guys around here put dibs on that stuff right away.. I am hoping I can make it work in that frame, but it is fighting me. I wil have to raise the swingarm pivot, and frame backbone about  2inches, which means major frame surgery..no way around it..

I would be looking for an engine that fits the frame Frank, you really don't want to move the swingarm pivot, its where it is for a reason and would be a real shame to cut up a vintage tracker frame...

It was 1970 trials bike, bought it for the Betors and Akronts.. What is really good on it is the rake that fits the bill and almost unlimited turning angle. 2 stroke engines  however, are not as high from sprocket shaft to bottom of engine.

So I got nuthin to lose..but dont have the welding equipment to do it myself. I mentioned that I have to lift the top 1/2 of the frame, to a buddy that builds bikes and frames. He said..So...start cutting.. At least I can get it tacked next door. I will have to do it in 3 stages..

Another thing that makes this frame a great choice is that the tube behind engine, actually goes backwards, in the carb area. This is pretty rare, and I plan on running a Dellorto or Weber 2 throat..of course (need the clearance)....and a really cool set of TT headers that I have waiting to have a bike built around them..

Can't wait to see a weber hanging off the engine,  ;D   You could always knock up a quick jig to bolt down the frame and go from there..

My buddy has several frame jigs (well known builder) he will probably weld it up but if I can tack things, nearby, it will help a lot..
Back in the day I had a hopped up 350,  with KO carbs. I have lots of 2 throat jetting, if I run anything else, will have to pick up lots of jets..

What kind of sick joke are these Spaniards playing..??
Turns out that the rear axle is 15 mm, and worse than that the swingarm plvot is only 12 mm...that is not going to work with the mighty CB 350..... More work ahead..

I dug out the side spacers off that wheel, heavy 80,s style beasts carrying extra weight.

Lucky the register lip was correct for the sprocket I planned to use boot pattern correct too.Disc fits but need to redrill for bolt pattern.
Put the spacers on a diet..went from 915.17 grams to 671.53... Still a bit to come off right on target for my estimated. 3 lbs for sideplates and bearings..

Why not lower the motor by modifying the frame at the bottom?

I'm really digging the look of that frame. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Hopefully the snow doesn't hit too hard this weekend. Or maybe that's good for progress.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

Good choices.

Definitely matches the look and feel of a proper tracker.
