FWIW, I pulled the head on my 500 (needed to do some helicoiling :-\ ) and with around 1500 miles of velocity stacks the bores still look utterly pristine. Which doesn't tell me anything about what they will look like 20,000 miles from now, but does make me a feel a bit more dismissive of the "direst" of the predictions...

Wow, super attention to detail Stevie!

If you're still checking this post I had a question about the rear brake lever: How did you cut the internal splines? Did you use a broach or maybe a shaper, or cut up a stock lever and start welding?

Thanks!

That's the kind of work that should be on Biker Build -off. True originality in working with an existing bike and making it into something even better.

S Mac: I want your rear brake pedal/lever. I have a similar set up using what I think is a CB 400 slightly rearset shifter. That works fine. My brake side foot peg is mounted like yours. I need a shorter brake lever that will fit the splines of the brake actuation shaft. I can see problems getting a lever to fit the splines properly w/o stripping out. Does this make sense? Will you be making any more? Any thoughts? TIA

AMAZING!  Simply gorgeuos.  I'm the the beginning stages of converting my '77 550 to a cafe.  What brand of gel battery is that?  I'm hoping to achieve the same look as yours (hidden battery and electrics).  Hoping that is.

Wow that bike rocks.  I like the pics and being able to see a setup for shifting is great since I need to kick my pegs to just fore of the pass pegs.  Great looking work, I only hope mine turns out half as good.

GREAT job !!!!  Real eye candy!  Have you considered "lightening" up the front end with a shortie or Dunstal type fender?

What brand of gel battery is that?
I am also in need of a good sized (but smaller than stock) Gel battery.
Who makes it - where'ed you buy/order it from - etc ?

ProTeal55,

I just bought a Gel Battery for my CB550 @ planetbattery.com.  $33+shipping.  12V 12AH.  5.95L, 3.86W, 3.7H.  Kudos on the 450.  Danny bailed me out on my carbs the other night.

Cheers!
