carburtor/airbox reinstall question
« on: March 30, 2014, 01:25:50 PM »
Here's a question many of you will find easy to answer. (1)When putting carbs and airbox back on bike, do you leave the carb-to-engine boots on the engine or the carburetors?
(2) How far into the airbox should the carb-to-airbox boots be placed?
Been struggling with this for a couple hours without making any noticeable headway. I know I've done this before, but it's been awhile. When I get everything more or less in place, the airbox is too far back (3/4" to 1 ") to get the bolts in that hold it to the frame.
Help, advice, suggestions would be seriously appreciated. Thanks all.

Engine to carb boots stay on the engine.
Airbox boots stay in the airbox, but can be pushed in snug to make getting it in place easier, then pulled out to mate up snug with the carb intakes.
If the airbox is back too far, push the intake boots in a bit.

i also found it helps to only deal with the top half of the airbox, makes it much more manageable.

once you got the top half hooked up, just put the filter in the bottom and lift it up and tighten it down with the wing nut.

Thanks, guys. I sort of knew the correct answer. I guess I just needed some reinforcement. Finally got it all on. The main difficulty was shoving the carbs far enough into the engine boots and then getting the air boots pulled out exactly the right distance from the box. Thanks again, you guys alway pull my bacon out of the fire.
