Points Supplier
« on: November 14, 2016, 05:09:57 PM »
Since every thread I found through searching is very out of date, where is a good place to get the good TEC points/condensers? Thanks in advance.

JT is still doing business. I've bought a bunch of oem products from him in the last few months.

However, speaking about points, it's cheaper to buy a new points plate assembly. I was able to order it right from Honda....and this was last month.

Dont forget the plethora of good used OEM (TEC or ND) points plates on Ebay.
Many times these offering will include multiple points plates (for cheaper than a NOS unit) AND include the advancer unit.
Clean up and piece together a complete points plate, have spares to put in your tool kit, and sell the ($50) advancer unit.
Net cost $0

I saved at least 4 plates in the 80's when installing new. Could not dump it, saved in a box. I think one of the plates is TEC the other not.
I have 3 sets of NOS TEC points I can install on those plates. Condensors that might work too, A box of 10 NOS Koyo that probably were old for 40 years ago :)
I have a bunch of 0.22 uF /630V capacitors in shipment from China.

I need more bikes for my parts.... Horder warning when order stuff while still available, not directly needed.

Are these points known as a good brand? Same seller that sold NOS TEC points sets of 3+3 for a really good price earlier this year.

I wouldnt trust those  :-\

Yeah...its a good day when you come across a nice offering with good usable parts  ;D
I'm currently running ND points on a TEC plate with my HM transistor unit.
I also noticed that the TEC plates fit more snugly between the three mount posts.
The two aftermarket plates I threw on there had palpable play on the mounts.  They'd need post shims.. but even with shims, the advancer unit cutout would be too off center throwing everything off.... so they were frisbee'd into the trash.  ;D

If anyone is looking for (what looks to be) an NOS 750 points assembly: https://www.ebay.com/itm/222293195317

It's labeled as a 650 part but the 650 doesn't use points, haha. Searching the part number brings up some 750 stuff.

TEC?

TEC.....ordered and picked up from my local honda dealer a few months ago. I tried getting a pic of the TEC but it doesn't show up through the bubble wrap.

Before buying on ebay and having to pay shipping, go to Honda first.

So that entire plate assembly is all TEC? The points and condensers too? I may as well buy the whole damned thing even though I only need the points and the condensers.
