I got one from the early 80's
....nice what times that run..?
This is Dave Dodge from Dodge Racing Products. This is a 750 sabre and I think he said it was around 10.50. He said he had the national record for the class on that bike.
Interesting story... as best as I can remember it.
Dave was working at RC Engineering back about 1980 when Honda came to them and wanted to test a new bike with a new engine. It was the V4 engine that was going to revolutionize motorcycle engines. They told Honda they needed a bike and three engines and all the parts they needed. RC built this bike and began racing it before it was commercially available, with no badges on it of course. They were running mostly in the stock class and were beating everyone by .25-.5 seconds and they were pissed.
After it came on the market Dave continued racing them. He removed the radiator, plugged the openings and ran oil as the coolant. He removed the prolink rear suspension and put a strut in. Lowered the front and rear. Ran a RC custom exhaust, not to mention some other goodies to the frame and engine.
He's still working on V4s to this day in AZ.
If you've seen the V65 Magna commercial that came out, the one where they did the big smoky burn out and ran it down the dragstrip... yep, he was the mechanic on that bike that day. With Peewee at the controls then made 10 runs and 8 were in the 10 second range. That commercial was an actual run for time. The Magna was in the record book for 4 years for the events of that day.
