Saw that a couple of days ago, thats one very good reason why i hate trees and shrubs on the traffic islands, if i am going to be hit by something from the other side of the road, i want every chance to take evasive action, i've seen a similar accident locally....

You are right Mick. Could be a truck wheel etc too. You'd never see it coming.

Dang---Just spilled some coffee.  We just recently in the area had a poor 68 year old lady driving down a two lane 55 mph road,M89, when at about 7:30pm she hit a deer which came through the windshield and killed her.  Game over.  Never know when you may meet your 'destiny' out there.   http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2013/02/68-year-old_kalamazoo_county_w.html

Many areas in WA state now use low-tension cable barriers to prevent median/island crossings.
They may keep vehicles from crossing into oncoming lanes, but they will shred you like a cheese grater.  :o
Wouldnt do much for vehicles like this, taking a more aerial trajectory.  Still, they offer visibility and the chance to evade.

Not to mention, what they will do to a motorcyclist  :o   We have the same barriers here, stupid dangerous for motorcyclists, a friend of a friend was decapitated by one of these stupid cable fences after laying his bike down, if the cable was not there his injuries were just gravel rash.... >:(

I saw this same kind of thing happen when I was in a different car in the slow lane , the driver in the fast lane was in a big Lincoln SUV He was hit at the windshield/door post  the same way as in this video. He didn't make it. It was a cold sweat, nightmare provoking wreck that took a while to get over. As soon as the grill came visible from the bushes in that video, the other accident I saw  replayed itself in my mind before the lights went out in the video. Horrifying, could happen to any of us at any time, without the bushes  they may have had a shot at evasive action, and may not have.  No-one would want to see this coming, but everyone would want a shot at changing the outcome.
On a cycle? If the impact didn't kill you , the traffic behind and around you probably would. Even if you were lucky enough to avoid all that, there's usually curbing, rain grates and rail posts to deal with, Bruce Willis would be hard pressed to beat those odds, even in slow motion.  Just horrifying.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.
550 Snowbike -Somebody had to do it.

Funny you say that, i was on my way to work in Sydney in the late 1980's, i was sitting at an intersection waiting for the light to turn green, when it did i glanced to my left and spotted a Volvo sedan coming through the red light out of control, i gave my gsxr a big handfull of throttle and blasted through the intersection just as the Volvo slammed into the car i was sitting beside, i would have been crushed to death between the 2 cars if i had not seen this idiot coming, to make matters worse, there was a cop on the other side of the intersection to the left, even though he commended me on avoiding a dire situation he proceeded to book me for speeding, what an ass hole.... >:(
