Just got done polishing the front end. Looks nice but dang it is a bunch of work.

The motor mount hasn't cracked yet. I did structural on it and it is showing the carbon fiber is 48% stronger than the metal ones I took off it. A structural part is more difficult than a cosmetic part. The autoclave heats up longer and more pressure is needed. The layup is different as well as you want the weave to build strength. The good thing about carbon is it will take the harmonics much better than metal. It is less weight, but minimal. It is really about the look regarding this part. Just had to do it and the engineering is a fun thing to do if you like math.

In the context of sohc's I really detest the stuff, it's just the wrong fit, creates a material mish-mash that doest work on 70's stuff (for me, for me). Am I all alone in not going gaga about carbonized sohc's? Take into account that i am a bit of a purist. Even "billet" stuff and 17" rims have no place on sohc's IMHO.

So, with that carbon rear fender it really begs to have a light rear tail-lamp assembly and new relocated turn signal stalks to that bracket so you have room for a set of rear panniers if you want to do a little touring.

Carbon fiber fairing like the Vesco Rabid Transit? It is a classy fairing design.
That would be a ton of work...

The frame mod to make head removal easier on the CB750 in carbon would be a nice mod.

Any chance of doing an engine mount kit ?

How about a carbon K model tank...

Its not that hard when you know what you are doing, i have a couple of friends that used to make their own race fairings fo4r their track bikes...

The motor mounts I did consist of 3 parts. I could do a tank, but you would have to send it to me and it would take some time. I did a Suzuki GSXR1000 working tank for a guy and had no issues with contamination. I tested the fuel every two weeks and sent it to a lab to see if it was getting contaminated. I did it with three different fuels all from VP, oxygenated and non oxygenated over a three month time frame. It took me three different resins to find one that did not interfear with the fuel. The tank was stupid light and we put a Newton cap on it.

The only problem with bladderless carbon tanks is if you go down you do so in a fireball. For all it's strength carbon is also brittle. Kindof like tempered glass or carbide. A steel tank will dent and deform, carbon will crack and leak gas on your motor. I think on a bike you must have a bladder. Or a cage around it.

Having said that carbon stuff is awesome. And for an OEM+ build i'd say no, but for street/race/custom do it up.

I'm no purist though, thus I have a k7 and nobody really cares that I'm changing it.

Am I missing something or did you mill the fins off the middle of that hub?

Yes Ghostrider, those fins are gone and the spoke flanges are trimmed to make them vertical ribs...

Hopefully the additional cooling area of the fins was not needed for the drum brake cooling.

I did mill the fins. This is an everyday rider and the cooling shouldn't be an issue unless the clearances are out of whack due to wear and tear. If you are on top of your maintenance the fins have zero benefit. However, if this turns out to be an issue I will report on it so others learn from my mistake. Once the wheels get back I will shoot you some pictures, but the finished piece should look nasty.

Just clear coated my clutch cover for my CB750. I got this new clear coat in a can. Simple to do and the entire can was $25. It is a 2 part clear coat in a can from spraymax. Check it out as it is the best clear coat money can buy that the average guy can do without having to take the part to a autobody shop.

I work in Orlando but I'm from just North of Dayton! Grew up in Bellefontaine and went to High School in Lima. Might be coming through Dayton in June to visit my folks.

I can attest the fins gone is not a problem unless you're abusing the brakes.
My "72 was chopped in '73. Hub fins milled, hub and brake plate chromed, no prob after 40 years of hard use.
