Winning bid, did not meet reserve
« on: February 14, 2013, 06:14:41 PM »
Can anyone look at the pictures and comment on this bike:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261166870263

I am curious about the dual disc conversion and if that is the front end off of another bike.

The tank is from a late model bike (though both engine and motor serial number hint at late 1975).

It's not pictured so should I assume there is no tail light and rear signals?

Here are the pictures I grabbed off of eBay in case the listing disappears.  Unfortunately I am only good enough to get the small versions.

Thank you,

I see a tail light and who needs blinkers on a cafe? I wouldn't pay $1600 for it.

Embarrassing.  A rolling pile of cafe wannabe.  Strip it to the frame, reuse what you can, scrap the rest.  Stev-o, agreed, but i would not go over 800 if it runs well and has a clean title. However, i am a cheap a** and don't pay much for anything unless it really catches my eye.  That rear cowl/seat combo is the primary problem.  The rattle can paint job comes next, then the cheap tires and odd headlight/mounts.  Just needs a complete makeover imho.

If it runs good, you can't build it for 1600 bucks.

I hate the trendy cafe-racer bullsh*t as much as the next guy, but this one isn't so bad.  Needs help, but look at all it's got going for it.  GL1000 front end, alloy wheels, drilled discs, a real fork brace,  good tires, hagons, RC header, still has the airbox...  Hell, the frame hasn't even been cut up yet.

It would be a damn shame to take all this work, especially if it's been done right, and strip it down to the frame.  Somebody should be riding this sumb*tch.

I would buy this for $1000 and plan on tossing out some stuff and finish off with more appealing items.   However, I would investigate the oil leak showing on the fins in the next to last photo as that concerns me.  This is what I call a Charlie the tuna bike.  Charlie the tuna did not know whether he should "have good taste" or "taste good".  You have to recognize the bike for what it is, a pretender with some good things going for it but in need of a make over where keeping cost to a minimum is not the primary objective.  Good luck to you.  Stickman

The builder is not hopeless - he kept the airbox.

I agree. Good bones...just tidy it up a bit. A new seat and good paint would go a long way. And lose the headlight visor.
