Topic: Carburetor Vent hose -- where to get?

Where is a good place to buy the correct carburetor vent hose in quantity.    I need this for my CB400F's, and CB350 Four.

I've been using black automotive windshield washer hose for a while now with no ill effects. I looked into getting the correct, discontinued Honda part for the overflow tubes for my CB500 Four but the only place I could find it wanted almost $90 for it. I decided the $4 of washer hose sounded better.

Agreed....I go to my local downtown hardware store that has it on a spool. Minimal cost compared to the Honda inflated price. Have it on 4 bikes with great results.

OK, I was using the wrong term.
What I meant was the float bowl overflow hoses (the really small stuff, attached to the bottom of the float bowls).
What about that?    That stuff is way smaller than anything they sell at an auto parts store.

I'm using fuel hose for mine. I would think, a motorcycle parts store should have fuel hose by the roll, and you can buy it per foot.

I also completely recommend, Dime City Cycles online. http://www.dimecitycycles.com/ They have all kinds of colors, and hose crimps for all sizes.

FYI, do not use washer hose for fuel, oil or other corrosive materials. Buy the right kind of hose, no leaks later.

Just use windshield washer tubing it is like 3/32 size, nice and small

You don't have to worry about any real fuel resistance because you shouldn't have fuel going in to it anyway if everything is working properly. The occasional overflow or maybe sticking float wouldn't be an issue as it is not even nearly sustained exposure that would break down the rubber

Go to autozone, NAPA, whatever and get some cheap tubing and save the rest of the money for going fast

I pick mine up at my local hardware store in the lawnmower isle.  use the fuel line that they have in rolls and just cut off as much as I need.

$9.98 for 3.5 X 3000mm bulk hose; nearly enough to do two carb sets, including vent and overflow tubes, both of which use the same hose.

That said, I like the windshield washer hose idea. As long as it's of small enough diameter it should work just fine and would be a little more easily available, I should think.

To whom it concerns. I dunno about the other CB's but 550s quite often suffered from vent tubes that became clogged by roaddirt, others were partly closed by the rear fork, main stand or whatever and others someway or another siphoned water into the float chambers. All this the result of vent tubes too long that hang below the engineblock. Remedy is simple: cut them above the rear fork to restore driveability.

I'd only wonder if or how washer hose would react when exposed to fuel containing ethanol. Everything I've tried in recent years (including line rated for the purpose) gets stiff, hard, and shrinks. Up until a few years ago, my 750 had the O.E. hose, and it was the best. I'd wipe the hoses periodically with WD 40 to keep them soft. Haven't tried
the latest from the Honda yet, but if it's better than the aftermarket stuff I've used recently, I'll pay the extra few bucks. I know vents and overflows only carry fumes, ....just sayin'

Well I can atleast vouch for 6 months of trouble free use. I have no overflow problems or anything but the hoses still seem like new and they are small so it is a nice fit to the carbs
