Topic: anyone tried a 37T rear sprocket on a CB750

G'day
I've got a CB750 and was about to put on the 37 tooth rear sprocket that I ordered, it doesn't look like the gaurd (is that what you call it) that goes on after the sprocket but before the lock tabs and nuts will fit as it is a larger diameter than the sprocket.
Is it cool to run with out this gaurd thing over the sprocket?
I don't have a 530 chain to suit the new sprocket yet so I haven't bothered putting the wheel back on yet.

How about using the smaller K0 and K1 sprocket plate? These were used up to frame number: CB750-1026845. The photo shows one installed on a 45T sprocket and would probably fit your 37T sprocket. The original part number is: 41211-300-000

You're okay to run without that guard most people just throw them in the bin.

Is the 530 chain too wide compared to the 520 chain or is it the same width and just the link size is different

What size front sprocket are you going with, with the 37t back ?

 Hope you never have to ride in town, and you will probably not use fifth gear much,, that is tall gearing..

The front sprocket I have a choice of 17 or 18 I have them both but haven't put one on yet
The bike is a 72 model
As for the tall gearing I don't ride the bike around town much as I have a different bike for that.  But I am thinking of making the CB750 my everyday bike so maybe I won't put this rear sprocket on as I don't have a chain to suit that sprocket anyway.
The front sprocket will take a 520 chain while the rear srocket needs a 530 I currently have a 520 waiting to be installed and a 45 rear but I was curious to try the 37

As 754 mentioned that gearing sounds way too tall.Sounds like some clutch slipping would be in order for takeoff. Betcha one of our math guys has a formula to transpose that to real world comparisons.

Dude, pretty sure you got the wrong sprocket.  37 tooth is for a 550. Stock for a 750 is 48(depending on year)   With a 37t, I don't think you will ever even be able to get into 5th gear or even get moving from a stop, for that matter...if you want low revs on the freeway try an 18t front and 46t rear.  Do a search here to find tons of threads on what has worked for others

Not to hi jack this thread but while the professionals are looking I would like to squeeze a questin in. My apologies and thanks in advance for any help. I have a 18 front and rear 43 on a 1975 750FO the bike has the factory close gearing and I have not had it freeway speeds yet. I this a good fit? I'm also trying to find out if this has been changed or is it the way it came originally. I haven't had it up to speed yet because it still has the origanal tires on it. I will be changing them asap. I got that 37T from Cycle X after seeing it on their web site.
I went out to see a mate today and he ordered me a 40T and a 45T between those two and my 17T and 18T front I should be able to find a gearing that is OK.
I'm about to put in a new clutch as well so I don't want to burn it out too soon.
The last one got stuffed when I tried to get all the smoke out of my rear tyre to make it safe to change

You never did say what year it is but most guys like the 17/48,I just run the stock 18/48.

+1 on 17/48... nice off take, and torque coming out of twisties.

It's a 72 model. 
The gearing that the bike had on it was 17/45 and it used to rev it's tits off riding at about 140km (about 90mph) I don't know the exact revs cause the tacho doesn't work.
