Team Southeast Coastal,
Three short weeks till we kick this off at Daytona! I am planning to launch this on the opening weekend of Daytona bike week between Friday 3/8 and Sunday 3/10. This will still leave the following (closing) weekend as a contingency for weather/work/life intrusions. I would likely drop by the Speedway on Friday 3/8 and head North on Friday or Saturday. Meet up in Savannah on Saturday again? I promise not to be late this time! I'd like to meet early enough to possibly tour the Warbird museum this time. I could likely ride along beyond Savannah for another hundred miles or so, depending on where everyone was stopping for the night. Be nice to sit around and talk bikes over barley soda!

Open to suggestions, what does everyone think?

That's still up in the air. I just put this one out there to get discussion started for the first segment of the "Rally". Thread/Team titles subject to change....

If the route is leaning towards a more Westerly track then I could veer West as I head North if we want to meet up in say Waycross, GA? Let me know what you think.

I posted about a meetup at FDR state park in Georgia for a handoff between Georgia riders and Alabama riders. Will post link here to that post:

We could camp at FDR Park with the GA bunch and talk motorcycles.

I think I can swing sat 3/9 in Waycross from Hilton Head SC or absolutely!!! 3/10 Sunday in Waycross! I can get it up to Augusta Ga Orangeburg SC?? Sunday following to scottly or towards the Atlanta crew. Any NC folks on the coast want to venture south of Myrlte beach?

The early start might keep things further South at first, especially with blizzard conditions still reaching into the Southern plains. I think the idea may be to stay South and work West to California, then after the turn back to the East crossing the central States back to the East Coast, probably zig-zagging to pick up as many states and local events along the way as possible. If the "Event" theme takes hold there could be a point where consideration may be given to the use of "Team Brown" to start leapfrogging the baton to local events, especially with the abbreviated riding season in the Northern states that tends to compress the scheduled events up that-a-way. If we make it back to the East Coast then things might follow a similar pattern as the first relay where it would run up through New England before turning back West to finish up in PNW. Again, there may be serious consideration to shipping from Event to Event by that point, depends entirely upon the general consensus and the willingness (or lack of) members to participate. We can't pull it off without participation!

If there's enough interest to route the 1st leg through any combination of the South/Southeast Coastal states, SC, NC, VA, WV, TN, KY, AR, MO, etc, then by all means don't be afraid to suggest something. I open to heading North and West (McRae?) or North and East (Savannah?) from Daytona as long as there's enough supporting riders to make the connection headed back to the West. All ideas are welcome... and subject to being shot down in flames too!

I can meet in Waycross on Sunday 10th and ride West possibly toward Tifton, Albany and Columbus. I don't know how far I'll be able to go as the bike isn't road tested yet. Just food for thought.

Bluezboy has suggested a meet-up in Hazelhurst. I would be shooting for mid-day on Saturday, either 3/9 or 3/16. That leaves me an extra day to get back home in case I decide to have some beers Saturday or decide to take a meandering route home.

Let me know what everyone thinks and keep the ideas coming!

Still working out the schedule for the recieving riders. I'll likely be in Daytona 3/8 and hoping to handoff in Georgia on Saturday, 3/9. If that doesn't work (due to weather, lack of recieving riders, etc) then we have the following Saturday, 3/16, as a contingency. I've only heard from bluezboy so far.

I should be good with Hazelhurst.

Just a side note...Peaches to Beaches yard sale (from Perry at I-75 the whole way to Brunswick at I-95) is that weekend. This will mean more traffic and people being less attentive to their driving. BUT you may find a good deal on an 8 track tape deck. The main drag for the yard sale goes right through Hazelhurst.

I am flexible right now for the meeting spot (Waycross, Hazelhurst, Mcrae, or even Savannah), but what sparse communication there has been looks like Hazelhurst is starting to gel...

I have been looking at the maps and the locations of the riders so far. So, madmtnmotors (Wilbur) is coming north from Daytona to meet up with fivestring who seems to be in Nashville, GA (let's just say Tifton to avoid confusion with Nashville, TN). Bender01 is in Savannah, and bluto and k3owner are in the Atlanta/Douglasville area respectively. I am in Birmingham, and currently the next rider to the west is in Houston, Tx (motocyconomad), then two riders in Austin (Stev-o and Pecantree), then jcarthel in Lubbock, TX.

It seems to me that if we connect the dots, the path is Daytona, Tifton, Savannah, Atlanta, Birmingham, Houston. Austin, Lubbock.

If that is the way it works out, I just need to find out where to meet the Atlanta guys. Then I can coordinate with motocyconomad for a handoff to him. I think the guys in Austin have already figured out from there continuing west.

Anyway, if no one else signs up between Birmingham and Houston, I can meet motocyconomad somewhere around Slidell or Natchez, maybe Baton Rouge.

I am open to ideas, but wanted to start to clarify the path so that everyone knows what to expect. So, with that in mind, I thought I'd throw something out and see what everyone else is thinking.

Let's get this thing organized, tomorrow is March 1, 2013. Kickoff in roughly ONE WEEK. Yeaaah!

Either one week or two weeks. I have yet to recieve any feedback or input from anyone other than wardenerd and fivestring so I still don't have any concrete plans or firm date yet. Good thing I'm still flexible, would be nice to be able to let the downstream riders know what to expect though...

I can be in Tifton(or elsewhere east) Sunday 3/10 after lunch. Take the lizard to Savannah and into SC where I live. Hold him a week and swing him north 3/17 towards the Atlanta crew. I know Bluto and Bluesboy . There's a couple others up there as well.
If nccb(NC) or scotts(SC) will meet mid state SC On Sunday 3/17 they can put the lizard in NC and send it over to Atlanta and westward to AL.
Im not real flexible. I have 2 full time jobs(no benefits) and kids. One thing is for sure! I have Sunday off!

Ps. My 9 year old is riding this year if it lines up.
Ill be going over the k-4 Sunday for sure!
