Today, I completed the last of the work required to resolve all of the known issues that came with the 1978 CB550K that I acquired a few months ago, and I believe it's finally ready for prime time, just in time for the GZ Rally. Work completed to date includes:
Retorqued cylinder head, replaced all of the oil pump housing o-rings.
Cam chain adjustment, valve adjustment, dynamic compression test.
Tested ignition coils, replaced spark plugs, fresh trim on plug wires.
Replaced ignition points plate assembly, adjusted points and timing.
Removed and cleaned carburetors, replaced intake manifold o-rings.
Lubed and adjusted throttle cables, repaired broken throttle spring.
Cleaned fuel tank, replaced fuel hoses and filter, synched the carbs.
Replaced air filter element, crankcase vent and carb overflow hoses.
Repaired damaged wiring, a mouse was living behind the headlight.
Rebuilt both front forks with new seals, dust caps, and 15w fork oil.
Installed second (dual) stock front brake disc and caliper assembly.
Rebuilt front brakes with new caliper/MC seals, hoses, hard lines.
Replaced front brake pads, speedometer cable, shifter shaft seal.
Rebuilt front wheel with nicer stock rim, new spokes and nipples.
Rebuilt rear wheel with 2.15" wide rim, new spokes and nipples.
Installed new Dunlop D404s, 100/90-18 front, 120/90-18 rear.
Next up, the cosmetic deficencies, but so far it look pretty good.
