OK guys and gal(

), here is how the first leg of our team is going to go: Heffey and I (and hopefully shenanigans) will ride up to four-corners on a Saturday, and meet Proto, Justin, and hopefully coke there. (It would be really cool to meet CBGhia as well: three relay heroes from GZ-1 at the same time!!!!)
On the way back from 4-C, I will split off and meet up with KayJohn from Kingman near Ashfork, and ride part of route 66 with him and any other Kingman riders before heading home. IN ANY CASE, GZ 3 will take team red, white, and blue, AKA USPS to SoCal. There is no need to cross the Mojave again. By that time, the lower desert will be a frying pan set on low simmer.

I will mail GZ to GreenHornet74 in Hawthorne, who participated last year. I realized he was a serious rider then, when he started talking about a failed Dyna-s in Canada, while on a trans-continental trip. I remembered when he was trouble-shooting the problem, and his jaw dropped when I told him his cousin had to ride back across the border to get a replacement. If I recall correctly, after the ignition repair he met Andy, the originator of the "lets see your bike on the road" thread. It's these small-world experiences that make the relay all the more important; meeting and sharing with members. It's the ride, not the destination.

I was moving some big metal rings for a Double Ring Infiltrometer test kit.
like so:

They take a beating since you have to drive them into the ground with a sledge, so they get burrs and splinters on the edges. Sliced me good when I was releasing my grip.
Workman's comp, yay!
It's healing up pretty well, only 3 stitches since it was only about 1" long, but it was about a 1/2" deep. I got lucky not to get any tendons. If it wasn't in such a bad spot I probably wouldn't have even gone to the Dr... and then probably would have gotten lock jaw without the tetanus I got along w/ the stitches, lol.

Scottly, changed your mind about going up to 4 corners afterall?

Ready over here in Santa Barbara to meet up with the contingency from Willow to take our sweet GZ-3 to Northern California.

What sort of infiltration were you testing for?
Back on topic: the decision to bypass the Mojave was not made without due consideration of the experiences of the riders VS an unbroken "chain of custody". CoachDoc, you mentioned trailering your bike to a join-up point. How about Hawthorne? From there, you and GreenHornet could head towards goldarrow, and continue on towards Rosamond...

It looks like the weekend of 5-18 for the start of the SoCal leg won't work for CoachDoc, either. How would everyone feel about the 4-corners hand-off happening on 5-18, and SoCal the next weekend?

Thanks for the feedback guys. We need to start hearing from the other Socal riders, as well as the Norcal riders, now that we have some dates to plan from.

I'm open to that idea or to meeting up with you in 29 Palms/Joshua Tree. I guess I'm a little partial to the latter because its a lot easier to find a place to leave my SUV and the trailer out in the boonies. The weekend of the 25th is great for me.

Coachdoc, another option I can suggest, I used to live off nearby 405/Sherman way exit. My sister still lives there, safe street, you could park there. Mondays and Fridays are street cleaning, depending which side you park.

Yes, I'm curious about dates and routes for the San Francisco Bay Area as well, my 550 is close to being ready, and I'm interested in participating in the relay. At this time, I'm guessing it will be sometime during the last week of May or the first week of June?

Steve-O, I last heard from Justin on April 12, when he answered a pm regarding a meet at Clayton, NM. He said that would be fine. I am waiting for a response to a second one that I sent last night regarding a date and time now for the meet.

Got my stitches out today and it is amazing how much better it feels. If the lizard needed a ride tomorrow, I'd be willing to do it.

Scottly, it is a percolation test of water infiltration into soil... that sort of info is very important in construction as well as knowing what will happen when it rains heavily and all that water goes to our retention basins we have all over the valley. It is a 6 hour test minimum and its a lot like watching paint dry. Check levels every 1/2 hour to hour and Netflix on the phone the rest of the time.

If the Socal gang leaves the LA area on the morning of 5-25, they should be able to do the ride to Rosamond, then back to the meet-up with Mooshie in time for her and GreenHornet to ride as far as SLO or maybe even Morrow Bay the same day, depending on the route. That would put GZ into the Bay area by end of the day 5-26. Since most folks can only ride on weekends, I would guess that GZ might begin his eastward trek on 6-1?

BTW, for anyone that is still considering crossing the Mojave, it looks like parts may hit 100* this coming Monday. By the end of May, this will be the norm.

Andy was really benevolent towards us. Because of him I was able to fix my busted fork seals. He also introduced us to other sohc members. One of them was a Honda guru and his basement literally looked like a cb750 parts store.

I'm still in for the ride. Unfortunately I could only ride Friday through Sunday unless they change my work schedule. That should give me enough time to ride as far North as SF, meet Mooshie & others along the way? Triumph dude (daytona 675) can't make it this year due to his bike having electrical issues. However, I know another triumph dude (bonneville) that may join us.
