If we are going to ride on Saturday 5/25 we will need to decide where we will be stopping.  It is going to be busy on the roads (Memorial Day holiday) and hotels are going to fill up quickly.  I guess my thought is if we are going to go to San Fran on Saturday we best leave early (so it needs to be on Central Coast fairly early in am on 5/25) or we could meet up on Central Coast (Lompoc is fine) on Sunday.  But will still be lots of traffic on the 1

Hopefully the worst of the traffic will be on Friday afternoon and Monday. Good point about deciding on a stopping point for Saturday; it would be wise to call ahead and make reservations, if it isn't already too late.
I did some playing with google maps, and it looks like about 240 miles from Hawthorne to SLO, taking back-roads, but the route includes detours that add miles and time. I would guesstimate that it would take 6 hours riding time.

From where I am to SLO is about 2 hours even if we take the twisty roads (normally that is 101>154>Foxen Canyon >Santa Maria).  there are other routes (192>154>etc..) or (101 > 1> Pismo>101)--but normally people want to take some version of the 1st route.
We could always go the following weekend?
I will just need to know what the plan is from the So CA riders AND the No CAL riders--who will be picking up GZ-3 and in which town?
Have we heard from NO CAL and where they want it to be handed off to and when?
Ugh..this is why you do this stuff and not me Scottly... ;)

Trust me stay the heck away from Pismo if you want make any time. ;)
The traffic would definitely lighter, and safer the next weekend.. What say all of you, including team 4?

Howdy all, sorry for being silent for a while here. I'm planning on riding but I'm having some bike issues. I burned the wiring harness on my cb400f so I probably won't be riding that, my 76 750f is mid project w/ new wheels and forks and I don't trust my aluminum mock up spacers and sketchy headset mods for a long ride yet. That leaves me with my 77 750f which has the dreaded 25k  mile valve issue. It needs tires and a tune-up after a major cross country ride but that's no big deal. Does anyone have any experience w/ this problem? I rode it for a month straight as the problem developed so what's a couple more days? It blows black smoke when I give it throttle and burns a lot of oil but otherwise is cool (except for the hot wired ignition after blowing over in a hurricane and the tent stake holding the muffler on). It's either that or my super cafed out 86 yamaha srx600 or perhaps my girlfriends 75 cb200 (doubt it).
So much to do, so little time.

Matt it is not relay if you have not hotwired or re-purposed something to keep your CB up and going.  However, knowing what a "fast bastard" (as Sean says) you are I do not want to be behind you with WOT and black smoke... 8)

Here is a revised schedule; I think it may work better for all involved.
5-18/19 Four-Corners
5-25/26 To be determined, possibly a ride to Kingman, or maybe just a day trip for those in the Valley?
6-1/2 SoCal to NorCal (perhaps Rosamond would again be an option on 6-1?)
6-8/9 NorCal towards the East.
Let me know if this works for all of you. It's YOUR ride! ;)

Quick update:

Texas Rally was a great time but Justin was unable to make it.
He rode half way to Austin, then found out his son was taken to the hospital, so obviously he had to get back.
I have Zilla and Team Brown will be transporting him to Amarillo asap.
He is still planning to meet Proto.

BTW - I heard Zilla got lucky with Barbie last night!

Yes, 4.  Apparently has pneumonia...

That sucks....I experienced it first hand.

My oldest son had bacterial pneumonia couple years ago, stayed in hospital for 10 days.  Then just this past January, my second son had viral pneumonia, stayed in ER 1 night, and hospital for 3 day.

Looks better on several counts. Nice to avoid the holiday bustle and road congestion, plus definitely putting Roasamond and APE/Willowsprings on the schedule is a big positive.

June 1st and 2nd works for me just fine.  Much better than Memorial Day.  What do the other So. Cal riders say?

D'OH!!

6/1 might be a no-go for me.
Looks like we're doing a b-day party for one of the kids that day. Not sure yet...

Well that would actually be the hand off from So Cal to No CAL.  Perhaps someone in Santa Cruz (see how I am pushing for Santa Cruz ;)) or Monterey Bay (my second choice) can take the hand off and then you all can go the following weekend or whenever it works best for you?

Matt, is the Yamaha good to go, right now? If so, don't stress out about it. It would be nice if you could ride a Honda, but if not, we won't shun you.  8) 8)

Just got off the phone with Justin.  Looks likes his son is doing good and may even ride along with his mom who will be following along behind Justin in a support vehicle.  Looking forward to seeing them all again.

Our plans are to meet at Rabbit Ears cafe there in Clayton, NM at 11:30 on Sunday 5/12.  From there, I will take a leisurely ride across Highway 64 westward.  I would like to get as much of 64 ridden as i can, as this is one of the last east/west roads across the state that I have not travelled entirely yet.  I will then veer back north to my home base in Colorado for a few days and then saddle up for the ride to 4 corners for the hand-off to the AZ riders on Saturday 5/18.

Ya. I was thinking I'd maybe go south a ways, like Big Sur, and hook up w/ you guys as you head north (into Santa Cruz ;) )

But if you're coming up on 6/1 then I'm prolly out. If you overnight around here on 6/1 then maybe I'll head south a ways with you as you head home?

Grump, that might work. Remember that GZ will remain in NorCal at the end of the day, 6-2, and head east on the morning of 6-8. Perhaps you could get some riding in on both weekends, and still stay fairly close to home?

Proto, don't know how you're getting to Clayton but if you're close to the Springs on 5/11 I have food and shelter. Hitting the road early on 5/12 though.
