This is the big question right now; who is riding east to Winnemucca on 6-8?

Winnemucca is about 350+ miles each way from most Bay Area cities (probably closer to 400+ miles each way with back roads added in), is there no one in between?  I would love to take a 700-800 mile overnight weekend trip, but that is probably more than I can arrange.  Wasn't there someone in the Lake Tahoe area?  That would just about split the distance in half.

Personally I love the 2 lane 154 that goes past Lake Cachuma. Would mean a short jag on 101 before you could jump over to the PCH. You pick, Mooshie, it's your backyard.
154 ends at/near Zaca Station. From there you could either take the 101 to SLO, (the fastest) or Foxen Canyon and bypass Santa Maria. Bull Canyon Road dumps out on 166, just before 166 meets up with the 101 north of SM, so you can avoid the demolition derby approaching the bridge over the Santa Maria riverbed.

okay, well that all sounds great.  What time do you anticipate leaving Santa Clarita and do you have a route in mind (I can then gauge what time you will land in Carpinteria or thereabouts) and I can meet up with you all or you can just come to my house (I am just off of the 150 and 101).  Also, is riding PCH1 the way people want to go into Monterey/Santa Cruz?  Twisties to the 1(basically 192>154>101>1 or 101>154>1)?  Straight shot (basically the 101>1)

If we meet at 8:00 in Santa Clarita, even accounting for some milling around time we should easily make Carpenteria by 10:00, taking 126 and then 150 through Ojai.

10am or so sounds great.  I would say if we have the time (and if we leave by 11 we should have plenty) take the 150 (very short jaunt)>192 twisties>154>Foxen Canyon>Santa Maria &101>PCH1 into Monterey.
Others may want to take something other than PCH1 (side trips) so I will leave that up to all of you.  Or when we return home we could take other roads.

I will go with whatever Sal thinks is best.  If noon is what we get then that is fine with me.  But of course these things never stay on pace with the actual time frames that people think.  So noon really = 1pm and so on and so forth.... :-*
Sal do you want the handoff to be in Monterey?  That is fine with me but who is picking up GZ3?  Can they meet in Monterey and not Santa Cruz?  Need to know as I need to make reservations for 6/1/13.
[/quote]

If the handoff could be at Monterey then that would be great! But not sure who will ride down to pick it up. Worst case scenerio is to wake up really early again on sunday and head a bit more north. My triumph buddy has a friend near Monterey so I think we will be crashing at his apartment.

+1 on the 154. I've taken it to SLO many times. According to google maps it only adds 2min extra.

Hi Sal:  Glad we can ride again this year (I promise to turn my blinker off so you don't go batty! :o). I made reservations at the Motel 6 off Fremont in Monterey.  Butts right up to SR1 so thought that would be an easy way to go.  +1 on riding further north if needed (I'm going to make you go to Santa Cruz!).
Will Triumph Dude be riding with us too? 8)
Okay so it looks like we will at least take the 154 to Foxen canyon (you should like Foxen nice twisties) to Santa Maria then 101 to 1.  Depending on time we can ride 150>192>154 (also nice twisties--the 192 picks up off of the 150 right at the tail end in Carpinteria and I live right near that).

Mooshie,

lol no worries. I'm going to disconnect your rear blinkers when you're not looking  ;D. I've never been to Santa Cruz but I heard good things. You'll have to convince me. Triumph dude will be riding with us, he has confirmed. Those routes sound good to me. If we fall back on time we could avoid HWY1 going up as we can always take it back down... plan B of course.

If there aren't enough riders willing and/or able to ride to Winnemucca, so be it. GZ can take a box to the nearest rider to the east. The whole idea is to ride with fellow SOHC4 enthusiasts, not to set endurance records. (Some of the records that have already been set will be very tough to meet, much less beat. ;))  In the meantime, the Norcal riders should take advantage of GZ's time in the Bay area. You guys need to decide what works for you, and let us know, so we can plan ahead and move on.

I guess I could get down to Fernley like I did in 2011 when I met up with Fred, Matt and Sean.  I wonder how Scondon is doing.  He hasn't been on here since last September.

Nice vintage pic scottly.

I saw your post about running chase truck. Not looking good for that but what I can offer is if anyone breaks down in the area give me a call and I'll sneak out from where I'm supposed to be(lol) and pick them up.

I'll still do the video thing if the So.Ca. group is interested.

Hey - If you do that, I'll maybe go with?

We could meet at where ever they're staying then run it up 1 to Matt in Pacifica or something like that...

I'm totally stoked about next weeks ride ;D: spent a couple of hours today putting together a compact tool package. Allen wrenches, end wrenches, pliers, wire cutters, spark plug socket, spare plugs, extra wire, multimeter, fuses, tubeless tire repair kit, electrical tape, baling wire, tow rope, and zip-ties. The roll of duct tape won't fit into the 4"x4"x 12" package. :(
Hopefully, the only things that will get used are the zip-ties to restrain the lizard. ;D ;D

I wrap duct tape around the end of a wrench a bunch of times.  Haven't had to use it yet but easier than carrying the entire roll.  I just set valve lash and points.  Changed oil and lubed/cleaned chain last week.  Getting ready to meet GZ-3 and the boys of SOHC-4!  :-*
