Lisa, are you planning on taking Hwy 1 from Santa Maria to Pismo? If so, consider a route from Foxen Canyon to Dominion to East Clark. There is a Unocal station on the corner of Clark and Bradley, and an Orcutt Burger on the other side of the intersection. From there Clark tees into Hwy 1 just past Orcutt.
(A bit of trivia: a scene from the movie "Sideways" was shot in the Orcutt Burger, and one of my mom's friends was an extra in the background. The town of Orcutt was named for a Union Oil engineer, or geologist(?), and originally consisted of company houses (shacks  ;)) that had been relocated to the present location once the wells were drilled.)

I am not really trying to plan the route-just throwing out some ideas. I am waiting for other So. Cal riders to join in.  I know the route from Foxen to Santa Maria so that is why I suggested that.  I am happy to lead but do not know the route you are suggesting so will leave that to a vote. :)

SAL!  well it is about time  ;).  Seems we have CoachDoc and Pat meeting up at Carpinteria at 10am...I sent Coachdoc the meet place on Carpinteria Avenue (76 station).  Looks like we have Goldarrow joining in and when we get to Santa Maria Bob3050 is meeting us.
I have no idea where all of you are meeting--I will be waiting patiently at the 76 station though. :-*
So far me, you and Triumph Dude are going to Monterey (and I have meet up info-cell phones, etc,  for the hand-off).

Just saw this.  Meeting up at 7am will give you plenty of time to ride the twisties into Carpinteria.  126>150>101>quick exit at Casitas pass road and there you are.  If you get to the meet up point early give me a text I am only 5 minutes away from there and will be ready that morning to go.
Riding until noon will get us into Santa Maria (would be my guess) taking either 101>154>Foxen or 192>154>Foxen---just depends on time and inclination.

Sal, Goldarrow and myself are meeting in Santa Clarita and riding the 2 lanes to meet Mooshie in Carpenteria. Do you want to meet us there and ride that leg with us, or do you just want to meet us all in Carpenteria?

Arrow, the last time we talked we had pushed the Santa Clarita meetup time back to 8 A.M. in order to get us into Carpenteria by 10, very doable per Mapquest. I'm not much of a morning person, so 7 A.M. not too realistic for me. I'll PM you with my cell #, so that we can work out last minute kinks, etc.

Howdy all! I'm stoked to see everyone making it happen. I thought I was gonna be solo to Winnemucca, NV! I've been having a few bike issues (surprise), I burned the wiring harness on the CB400 (always disconnect the battery before working on your bike), my SRX600 is dumping oil, my 750F cafe project is still very much a project and my 77 750F still needs the heads rebuilt. I'm not sure exactly how I'm gonna join y'all this year but I'll make something work. I'm ressurecting the 77 right now, it's been sitting since my 9000 mile cross country loop 2 years ago, still held together by bungie cords and tent stakes. If the head issue doesn't look TOO bad I'll probably ride it and be down for some more serious mileage. Otherwise, I'll slap some duct tape on the SRX to hold most of the oil in and try to meet up for a day ride in the Bay Area.
So much to do, so little time.

Matt it is not a relay if YOUR bike is not spilling bits and pieces all over the route!  Hope we get a chance to meet up again but if not get that bike up and running. 8)

It lives! Just paid the way overdue registration on the dmv website, fresh battery, minor tune-up, replacement of most of the little bits that got cannibalized, now I just need a back tire. WOOHOO! Are you coming as far as Monterey Mooshie?

I just PMd geminimotors (Mike) with a link to the current discussion; hopefully he can join in either 6-2 or 6-8, or both dates...

So. Cal contingency...Bob will not be joining us in Santa Maria, unfortunately he has to work.  So once we meet up at the gas station in Carp we can decide the route taking into account the time.  I sent a pm to Sal/Greenhornet with my cell phone number so give me a call when you reach Carpinteria and I will be there.  Sal seems to think it will take 3+ hours, I say 2 hours with a tiny + to reach me.  So instead of waiting for possibly 1 extra hour then just call me and i will be right there.
If anyone else wants my cell just pm me and I will send it.

Today, I completed the last of the work required to resolve all of the known issues that came with the 1978 CB550K that I acquired a few months ago, and I believe it's finally ready for prime time, just in time for the GZ Rally.  Work completed to date includes:

Retorqued cylinder head, replaced all of the oil pump housing o-rings.
Cam chain adjustment, valve adjustment, dynamic compression test.
Tested ignition coils, replaced spark plugs, fresh trim on plug wires.
Replaced ignition points plate assembly, adjusted points and timing.
Removed and cleaned carburetors, replaced intake manifold o-rings.
Lubed and adjusted throttle cables, repaired broken throttle spring.
Cleaned fuel tank, replaced fuel hoses and filter, synched the carbs.
Replaced air filter element, crankcase vent and carb overflow hoses.
Repaired damaged wiring, a mouse was living behind the headlight.
Rebuilt both front forks with new seals, dust caps, and 15w fork oil.
Installed second (dual) stock front brake disc and caliper assembly.
Rebuilt front brakes with new caliper/MC seals, hoses, hard lines.
Replaced front brake pads, speedometer cable, shifter shaft seal.
Rebuilt front wheel with nicer stock rim, new spokes and nipples.
Rebuilt rear wheel with 2.15" wide rim, new spokes and nipples.
Installed new Dunlop D404s, 100/90-18 front, 120/90-18 rear.

Next up, the cosmetic deficencies, but so far it look pretty good.

Hi Matt, yes I've riden it off and on totaling a hundred miles or so, this week I'm planning to commute to work on it, so if anything was missed it should show up.

Well the Central Coast route may be decided for us since there is a raging fire (not snow Sal ;D) off of the 154.  I will keep an eye on it and see if we should or even can go that way come Saturday.  If not we just ride up the 101 (not the worst ride given the ocean view) but certainly less fun.
