Learn something new every day
« on: July 18, 2006, 03:23:46 PM »
Decided since at was a nice (hot) day yesterday, would ride the 550 to work (65 miles round trip).  After about 10 miles @ 65 mph, it started to miss and lose power. Decided to turn around since I would have 50+ miles to go. Acted like it was not getting enough fuel (tank was full). Just rode it 50 miles on Sunday and ran like a watch. WTF! As I headed back home, changed the petcock to reserve and off to see if dirt was lodged in petcock. Clear fuel filters were full. Never got worse (or better)the rest of the way home. Last evening I decided to pull fuel lines to see if fuel was getting through. Reached down to remove fuel line and #1 float bowl was hanging on by 2 screws. 1 was gone and 1 was loose. Replaced missing screw and tightened loose one, ran like new. Those bowls were last of 1 yr and 2000 miles ago. No clue why they worked out now.Would have been the 67th thing I would have checked!

I can see the smile on your face when you figured that out. Don't you love it when it's simple like that  :)

:D :D Has anyone ever told you that you had a few screws loose  :D :D

Glad it was as simple as tightening up..

Did it smell of gas when you were riding it ??

No overflow of gas that was noticeable ??

No gas smell, no traces of leaks. I think the engine was sucking it through and I always turn off the fuel before I shut it off. Weird, huh?
