cb 550 valve adjustment
« on: July 19, 2006, 10:45:06 AM »
Hello,

Trying to adjust the valves on this bike.  The procedure is pretty straight forward but what the heck kind of feeler gauges do you use?  I tried bending/fabbing all without luck to get in there properly.  Called all the local bike shops and all need some sort of OEM number.  I can buy some on a 45 deg but that still doesn't look right.  Done them a lot on old kawa's but this is the first Honda rebuild.  None of the kawa's work because they are angled at 30-35 degrees.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, and great forum.

I use standard gauges of the right thickness, then trim them with some sturdy shears to make them slimmer, then bend them to whatever agle is necessary to get in there. Just don't use your wife's (if your married) favorate sewing shears. I might be the last valve adjustment you do.  ;)
