Topic: has anyone ever ran 750 carbs on a 1976 honda cb550f super sport

running 750 carbs on a 76 550f...can any one give me jetting numbers for both pilot and main and needle placement and any other tips on how to make this bike actually run.  Running pod filters alsoon the bike

All i can tell you is that these carbs hate pods, if you must use them, buy the best pods you can...

i would go back to 550 carbs but they are expensive to buy...and i cant find air boxes for the 750 carb setup nor do i know if it will work with this type of set up..any help would be awesome for me here!

Is the 550 stock or kitted, i've seen 750 carbs on 500's and 550's, actually there's a new guy here that has the 750 carbs on an old 550 race bike. I probably wouldn't run them on a stock 550..

Shouldn't be hard to find a decent set of carbs for a CB 550? For a fair price? Pretty simple to clean them up, buy a new slow jet etc if needed.

No the motor is stock a far as I know...and to finding a set of carbs for it..I have found a few but they are pretty expensive...why is it so hard to run those on a 550 ...I have jetted them from 80 all the way to 130 moved the needle and still can't get it to run not even to the point where I can at least ride it

Put a post in the parts wanted section for 550 carbs, shouldn't take long to get you sorted. You have a couple of problems with the 750 carbs, for one, on a stock 550 engine they are two big and two, using pods will make it just about impossible to set them up correctly. Not knowing how long its been since the bike has run doesn't help either, it may need a full carb rebuild and tune up with valve adjustment.

Glad you brought that up.....ok here we go...I bought the bike about six months ago in pieces and basically rebuilt the bike and   COMPLETELY went through the carbs and the bike each gear with the air screw all the way in..jets were 120 at the time..now its winter it didn't run for about a month on a regular but I would go out and start it...carbs have been gone thru again and they look brand new...I had adjusted all the valves as well..that was one of the first things I did...I painted the frame made sure all my ground were metal to metal thats about it...also I don't no if this has anything too do with it (as I am new to the world of old bikes) but the inner pipes are almost cool to the touch but they are getting spark....

Also I have changed plugs, wires and an oil change.. And what is the diff between resistance plugs and non resistance plugs and what kind should I use

Measure your spark plug caps from what I've read they can create their own problems.  You can buy them 0K, 5K,10K.  From use they will increase in resistance. I found my stock ones supposedly 7.5K to be 9K,9K,9K, 50K. I am replacing them with 5K ones and running non resistive plugs like yours.   You get all the info on caps and plugs at the NGK site

hey guys .....Thank you for all the points and avice and i hope i get more on this...so the type of coils i have on the bike are not the typical style we all have ..these are coils that you would run normal plug wires like a car..the coil packs dont have the wires built into them you literally plug the wire to the coil and of course you put the other end of the wire to the spark plug..now..the knighthawk carbs that were suggested on ebay, do those work on a cb550 and would they be worth picking up?  and yes the middle spark plugs are indeed getting spark so i dont no why they are running cold.. again thank you all for helping me out with this as i am new to the cafe/old school bike world (and loving it by the way!!!)

If it is indeed getting GOOD spark and at the correct TIME then think about what else do you need (fuel and air) if it will run on the two then try some starting fluid and see if you hear it pick up for a couple of seconds.
