cb 500 engine smoking

New to the sohc engines i got a 73 cb500 it set for 5 years and mostly under a shed i got carbs half way clean they were really trashed but got the back on got tank clean with new line she fired up very good but would not idle and was smoking blue smoke really really bad i let it warm up and shut it off and cool down started back up and the smoking was gone i let it run for a while it started choking so i reved it up the keep it running and the smoking came back carbs are still trashed they must have picked up something can someone help me is the smoking ok will it most likely go away?? what should i do first thing i pretty much just got it an barley cleaned it.

It may go away once its broke back in and ridden some. Could be some rings sticking for instance. Get any history on the bike at all.  How many miles is it showing.Make sure if you think its going to live to give it an oil change and a good tuneup if not done yet.

If you can get it running, ride the hell out of it. These things do not like to sit. as ekpent says the rings are probably stuck. Pour some seaoam or acetone/tranny fluid mix into the cylinders and let it set for a bit, that might loosen them up. the more you ride it the more things will loosen up and get back to normal. If it still smokes after that you might have worn valve seals or worse bent valves or cracked valve guides from someone not installing the head properly. Happened to me.

Maybe someone preserved the engine by putting oil in the cylinders prior to storage.  It pumps out into the pipes where it will heat up and smoke for a few miles.  Just kidding, theoddsofthatarevirtuallyzero.
