750K0 Side Cover Grills
« on: February 12, 2013, 04:28:26 PM »
I have been trying for some time to find the expanded metal grill covers for my reproduction K0 side covers. I finally found what I was looking for on the McMaster Carr website.  They have a variety of materials, sizes and shapes to choose from.  I chose the aluminum flattened mesh with a hole size of 0.06” X 0.10” and a thickness of 0.15.”  A one foot square piece currently sells for $14.44 plus shipping.  I don’t have an original to compare it to, but based on a foggy memory I believe it’s pretty close.

I plan on making a cardboard template and cutting the metal with scissors followed by quick coat of semi-gloss black paint, and they should be ready for installation.  Here’s the web address: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/119/3735/=lgadhe

I’ve included a couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure.

I just took another look at the pictures I posted.  The metal "sides" of the diamonds looks narrower in the pictures then it does in person, probably because I was shooting at an angle instead at 90 degrees.  I'll try to take a better picture and post it when I do.

Here's another picture.  A little fuzzy, but the best I can do with my iPad

Great. Thanks for the link. They look quite close to the real thing. I'll probably get a sheet. How are you going to attach to the back of side cover?

I thought I'd try a drop of super glue at each tab.  If that doesn't work, then a small dab of either clear silicone sealer or epoxy.
