PS...have someone firmly depress the rear brake lever as you are torquing down your axle castle nut.  Allows for better drum centering/more even wear of your pads  ;)

Thanks, ended up being just a few turns on the brake lever adjuster that did the trick.

Been riding the bike quite a bit and some new issues have come up- smoke coming through the air filters, a strong smell of gas. I checked the bowls and #1 seems to  be consistently overflowing despite the fact that I cleaned the carbs just a few months ago.. checked and rechecked, nothing seems blocked or stuck or jammed, and yes I checked to make sure float was right side up.

Pretty baffled.. maybe I should just order a float replacement set?

Update: looks like the flat washer for the float valve set is shot.

I took off the bowl and turned on the petcock while manually holding the float in and immediately it started to drip, drip, drip and I was able to isolate it to the flat washer seeing the gas swell up around the valve set and flow down from that.

So either way, have to order a new float bowl kit.
