I dunno if this is worthy of a tip, but I'm using a pair of Harbor Freight Dirt Bike Stands as jack stands ($30/each) for my CB750 while I do wheel work this winter:
http://www.harborfreight.com/350-lb-motocross-dirt-bike-stand-66552.htmlI know there's lots of ways to jack a bike up, but I like these because they are stable and have a nice rubber covered platform that measures 12" x 5.75", which is just wide enough to support the rear forks on my bike.

The only downside is that they're not designed to be adjustable. The font jack works perfectly sitting at its lowest point of travel. The jack has a pin, but there's only a hole at the highest point of travel, so I drilled out a new hole 5 5/8" from the base on the one I'm using for the rear fork. I still have the bike up on the center stand, and I didn't account for spring compression when I measured, so I had to insert a 1/2" piece of plywood to get the rear stand to the right height. That said, on my '77 CB750K, a hole 6 1/8" from the base would have been perfect.

By the way, they come with a foot pedal lever which I threw out.
