550K76 front leg numbers
« on: February 23, 2013, 12:42:47 PM »
My '76 500K2 (Europe) has the same front legs as the '76 CB550K. Left and right - just above the axle holders - you'll find a number stamped. May I ask you '76 CB550K owners to kneel down and communicate what number you have there? What were/are these numbers for and... are the numbers always the same left and right?
The number is small and next to some sort of Japanese sign.
Reason I ask: I have a '4' left and a '5' right.

Thanks. So I am not the only one who has different numbers left and right. Still curious what they are there for.

Related question:

I have a 76 550f and a 77 550k parts bike. Want to rebuild forks - or rather rebuild the 77 fork tubes and put them on the 76. 76 has the boots, 77 does not. I like the boots. I can put the boots on the 77 fork tubes, right?

And the 77 has a 7 on the left, nothing on the right.
The solution is painfully obvious once you know exactly what the problem is.
