Chains

Quick question on chain length...

I am extending my rear swingarm approximately 3 inches, and trying to determine which chain I need to buy to accommodate this. I know stock chains were 530x100 link, so 110? 120? 130? What's the best way to determine this?

if you have an old stock chain wrap it around the set up and see how far short it falls.

Assuming your are using the same size sprockets and only changing swingarm length with 530 chain:

Length 3" / Pitch .625" x 2 (top & bottom of chain) = 9.6 or 10 links longer

This formula does not take into account the hypotenuse of the chain angle created by the difference of front and rear sprocket diameters, but it is pretty close and you usually have enough rear wheel chain adjustment for it to work.
