Check this drilled rotor pattern
« on: February 21, 2013, 09:05:53 AM »
Thinking of buying this disc for my 76 CB550K but is this pattern OK? It looks like the outside holes are pretty close to the edge, is this a problem?

Yes I have a squealer alright.

I wonder about thinning the rotor down by 2mm will it warp easier? Will it effect the run out on the brake piston? 2mm is a lot when taking brake clearances. Just curious.

We've been running the drilled & thinned Godfrey rotors on a number of CB750 and CB400F race bikes for the last few years.

We've had zero issues with them after subjecting them to abuse that a street bike will never see.

They're worth every penny and then some.

NBD on the holes, we used to run all kinds of patterns on our race cars, including ones with edge holes (not a great idea from an engineering standpoint, but they worked fine)

Truth is there's a lot of thickness and area in that rotor for the amount of braking you can do with stock design.

None whatsoever.  Clean out the caliper and make sure the pads move freely and they're quiet as can be.  I am not of the opinion that the common SOHC front brake squeal has anything to do with the rotors.

This stuff works great:

Good to hear from another satisfied user, Big Bob.

Full disclosure:  Jeff is a friend of mine.  Was just out riding with him yesterday.

That said -  if his stuff didn't work I would without hesitation say it didn't work.  He has seen me do stuff like this in person, occasionally with great vigor, at high volume, accompanied with illustrative hand gestures and creative profanity.
