836 Cam Choice help
« on: February 25, 2013, 02:41:53 pm »
I have a 77 cb750k which will be ridden mostly on the street.
-Stage 2 JMR head port (over-sized intake, HD springs)
-836 kit (older cb350 twin pistons 65mm with valve reliefs cut into the dome. 10.25:1-10.5:1 CR)
-hd cam chain
-Stock rods and Carbs.

Have been looking into cams for a while now. Seems like the general consensus is to go with a megacycle 125-65 or 125-75. My more budget friendly options are some of dynoman's cams (dp295 or dp315) or cycle x (any 63 grind). The lift on the dp cams seem much higher than the cycle x, when does lift become too high for piston to valve clearance, I will still clay the pistons to be on the safe side.

Just looking for some good street cams, something that will still make good power but not a chore to use on the street.

When it HITS!!!! No,too many variables, piston, flycut, rod length(stock you said)head milled, cylinder milled, etc. All you named be OK,125/75 and 315 might be more higher rpm power,295 or 125/65 be my choices, not familar much with the'63's.Most time .080-.100" piston to valve be fine, can get closer, but riskier! ;). Now if you want to ride with more power esp up top,125/75 or 315 be great! Bill

I'd just like to mirror what Billy said, We've used all those cams with a similar set up to yours and the 125-60/65 and DP295 are far and away the best bang for your buck on the street.

I think ill give the dp295 a go. And its hard-welded which is a bonus.

Ill order up the..
dp295
adjustable cam sprocket
degree wheel

anything else ill need to degree the cam?

I wrote Dynoman about their DP295 cam and got this in return " You will need to check the clearance in the cam towers, as this cam sometimes requires a little material to be removed due to the size of the lobes."  Has anyone ran into this?
