Juha and Mike Rieck top-end
« on: February 27, 2013, 10:54:41 AM »
Yes its not a SOHC Honda but I just wanted to show what
you can do when you have Juha (one of the fastest GS1100 racers in Turku, Finland)
and a collaboration between Mike Rieck and Rick Stetson (Turbo fast guy with numerous championships)

This is a 2mm over Wisco kit with a Stage something (Mike please chime in for the details) Head
heavy springs with Ti retainers but not sure about how big the valves are
very nice porting with Cam Motion G4 cams
top end oiling system
and I have some RS36 flat slides on order to really make this a complete bike

so not only does Mr. Rieck do SOHC heads he is very good at other makes in including my GS750 in which he did an 850 head
with shim under buckets thats up at the dyno as I type this

enjoy
Jim

Jim, you dropped your pink lipstick in there  ;D

That's gonna be nice! Will you have before and after dyno numbers?

How about the valve to piston clearances? Are they OK?
Those parts have traveled a lot... Looking good Jim!

Valves are 28.5mm and 23mm, exhaust valves are stock.

Other type heads? Well sure.  ;D

Mike did a pair of RC51 heads for an old pal of mine that brought a smile to his face!

Well nothing is hitting any where and a fellow drag racer is coming over tonight to check
the cam timing to make sure we are still on the correct lob centers
Cant find the info about the centers but I think its in the 108 to 110 center
will make sure

was going to get the numbers on the stock motor but should be the same as a new one or a little more
Dyna ignition and coils, pods and pipe. carbs have a jet kit in them

going to get it up to the dyno as soon as I have it finished

You're no fun Jim ;D Is that the head I did for the old Katana?? If so it is basically a Stage 2 head. Very, very streetable with good bottom end and a nice top end finish. It will work very well with the 36 RS's.

It might be Mike but you would have to ask Juha about what it went on
The port work is nice with heavy springs and Ti retainers and the valve guides have been
cut to the port wall as to not get in the way for in coming gasses (I guess)

Let me know if you do your heads on the RC51 and then maybe we can start another project

will call soon

Jesse's Katana will have pretty much the same setup as Jim's GS, 1166cc Wiseco's, similar Mike Rieck head, G4 cams, Dyna 2000 but I'll be using '86 GSX-R 750 carbs to calm the bike down a bit. Should be enough for a 15 year old kid anyway.

We can compare notes when I take it to the dyno on what the 36RS flat slides will do

Sounds like a plan! Remember, that stuff only has about 300 miles on them.

Yeah everything had a light coat of carbon and it cleaned up nicely (Pistons, Combustion chambers)
So its time to get it on the dyno.........plenty of break in time for 300 miles

thanks again Juha

No But I am glad the head gasket put it back about .030
There wasnt much there

Got the cams timed last night (with in .1 degree of the recommended timing)
everything is ready

Just waiting for the carbs to get in.............

But........... I keep blowing the main fuse when I try to turn the engine over........................
everything turns on and all of the electrics work but when I turn the engine over just for a sec
it pops the fuse.................strange NO the valves are not hitting and putting a load on the engine....:)

.030 squish total Jim? Hard snapping fuses are usually a positive hitting ground. That's my experience. Or the solenoid is crap. Or the ground strap is crap. etc etc etc.
