Topic: Alternator Stator Coil Condition CB550k

I am disassembling the alternator stator so I can clean, strip and repaint the cover.  The stator and the field coil appear to be in good condition, however I am not sure about the condition of the wiring.  The fabric-type covering on the wires is in pretty bad shape; I would like to replace this.  What material is this?  Could I replace with heat shrink?

There are also two wires that come out of the bundle half way (see picture).  Where do these connect to?  I am missing a connector on one of these which I think should go to the oil pump?

I have looked at the wiring diagram but unfortunately I am not very electrically minded!

Any help would be appreciated.

get new vires on it and new laqer..??
all ..no ...some good  auto elektro shops can make it like honda did..all isolations and flex can still be faund new

i have made my own 550 last year..it took a weekend

the 2 vires are oil pressure kontakt..and gear indikator..i think..

My alternator cover is also missing the Honda badge.  Now, according to this thread my 78 cb550k should have the logo embossed into the cover:

However, it look like I might have a alternator cover from a 76 or earlier bike (see attached picture of my cover)??  Are these emblem covers for these pre-77 models still available? Or, I guess my other option is to replace the cover with a 77/78 version that has the logo embossed.  Are these covers fully interchangeable?

Yes, the cases are the same so the covers are interchangeable.
I have a spare from a '75 if you are interested.
