I adjusted my side stand a couple of days ago and I had a bit of trouble with the instructions.
After undoing the lock nut it says, "turn the shaft in direction A until it stops". Not sure what it means by till it stops, because if you keep turning in direction A it screws the shaft right out of the linkage on the side stand.
Here's what I did - not sure if it's correct, but it seemed to work.
With the stand up, I turned the shaft in direction B, which shortens the shaft. I found that if it is too short, you can't shift into drive and then if you shorten it more, you can't shift into low either.
So I then started lengthening the shaft and trying to select gears at the same time. I got to the point where it would shift into drive Ok, but as I kept lengthening the shaft, I reached a point where the sound of it clicking into gear changed. (Before this point, as it clicked into gear, it sounded as though part of the mechanism was coming up against a stop).
At this stage, I checked that the side stand put the bike into neutral when it was lowered, as it is supposed to and tightened the lock nut.
Not sure if this helps - perhaps someone with a bit more side stand adjusting experience can comment.
