Another K0 freed from a Barn
« on: March 02, 2013, 10:40:33 AM »
Earlier last month I started buying some bikes from a local guy I have known for years, He told me about them but I never saw them.I have bought 4 so far and am working on a few more.So this past week I finally picked them up,a 1970 CB750,2-1972 Suzuki GT750's and a 1967 Honda S90. Yesterday I went down to the shop to start cleaning off the road salt and gunk from hauling and them sitting and to start checking them out better.
The K0 is really low mileage at less than 6800 miles. Still had a 1976 license plate on the back.Looks like it may have the original front tire still if they came with Bridgestones. Has a 'newer' Dunlop on the back if I dare call it that, split up bad.Was red as the headlight and fork ears are that color and who knows why somebody painted it that lovely robin egg blue, maybe a tip over or something. All complete except the airbox so far but doubt it will turn up  :'(. Engine turns nicely, have oiled up the cylinders. What surprised me is the oil tank was still holding oil right to the fill line on the stick and is super clean. The exhaust pipes are great, notice the heat shields have a more matte finish than later models, maybe a K0 thing. Has a wrinkle tank, shorty plactic chain guard ,nice ducktail seat, single cut front fender, black kill switch, recessed ignition with key, grab bar,4 cable carbs that are clean inside, and a real bonus were the original mirrors and tool kit that even still have the tappet feeler gauges. The build date is 1/70 and the frame number is 20293 and engine is 20200,both pretty close.
Looks like the bike may have been sprayed down with WD40 or something to protect it and so far the chrome is cleaning up quite well. Guess the plan is to do a light restore, get the tank etc repainted and drive it.  Here's some pics.   Eric

Another fine bike to add to your collection Eric ;D Looks to be in great shape and only 6 grand on the clock, Great Find !! Lord have mercy, how many do you have now? Know any history on the bike? Are the tank and side covers replacements or just repaints of the originals.

40 @#$%^@#$ bikes.  I've got a 750KO and a 750K6 and been itching to get another Honda of some type, SL350 or CB450 maybe but I keep telling myself I don't need 3 bikes (well it would be 4 including my Harley), but son of a gun after seeing your stash a forth bike would be nothing ;D ;D

So cool Eric!!! Excellent find. My KO is a 1/70 build too. Those gauges looks great too. I am a little disappointed you took off the luggage rack. I mean...you would be the envy of the 750 community with that rack on there. Tell me you will put it back on... ;D please...

Eric,  wow, 40 bikes...being in MI no less.  Must have a great storage space for that many bikes.  Michigan has been hard hit with job losses and so many are leaving the state from what I have read.

Hope you got a good deal on the bikes.

OK Johnie I can tell you love that luggage rack. Its a big one. How about if you give me your address and I will send it right over your way Express Overnight Mail to put on one of your pretty bikes. Its kind of rough, may be a 'sandcast'.  I may e-mail you sometime soon though to get some painting tips as your stuff came out so great, maybe get your guys name if he is still interested in doing these if I can't find a local..

Nice find Eric!

I've got a good painter in BC. He painted my sidecar.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Would like to see the Suzi's too after you get to them.  I might want one when you thin the heard.

Nice score!  So do you think the red ears are the original paint and the tank and side covers have been painted?  Interesting that the side cover still has the decal on the side.  Looks very complete except for the missing bolts on the triple tree.  Maybe the original owner was going to take the fork ears off and decided against it and never put the bolts back on.

I wish I had room for 40 bikes.

Thanks guys.It was red originally per the headlight and ears so eventually will go with that color. Good catch on the missing upper triple bolts. It had some old metal fairing brackets that I took from that location. The PO had used some much smaller diameter longer bolts and of course lost the important D washers. They were quite loose but that's how those things get cracked.
Stevo here are a couple so far of not to good pics of the GT750's. There next to get some road crap wiped off, dang salt. The aqua one is pretty nice and should be a runner and the lavender one at this point may just be an extra parts bike.Engine turns etc but its quite rough.
The little S90 was left at a repair shop for the charges back in 2002.Guess the guy could not pay and just gave over the title. HUGE mouse nest in the battery compartment and frame when I took the cover off .It had a holed piston etc. It came with a bored cylinder, head with new valves and new piston gasket etc. Was told it was a 110cc upgrade, not sure about it all yet but have a friend anxious to tear into it and is going through a couple boxes of parts.
I'll post up in the spring what I need to thin out around here, somethings probably got to give. At least everything will run which is something I am sure a lot of us are not used to seeing when we make a buy.

No problem Eric. My painter has the codes for my ruby red, candy gold and the green / blue. I had an original NOS KO green / blue tank that he used to match the color. Told him to keep it on file for future projects.

I would love to find one of those S90's in a barn somewhere.  I rode the wheels off one of those in my Jr. High days.  Wish I still had it!
