Different material than found in the KA Performance tensioner. Rated to 500F and very durable (read expensive). ;D ;D Some more items coming down the pike too. ;)

Think I'll have one for the new engine.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Yes, they appear to be the next best thing in tensioners. Kenny, the man. He cut away an engine to study all the current configurations, I think you'll like it......Mr Honda not that far off! ;) ;D More info as they become available. Also offers much better chain contact, not too many unsupported links! Way cool! We were just talking about them yesterday.Bill

Correct Mick. As Bill said....it wasn't until he cut the engine away that he saw what was really going on. It was like a moment of clarity for him. He has been talking to chain engineers...obviously. Other stuff coming down the pike. ;)

Also....he is correct about the milled pieces. My current engine has -.045 off the head and -.020 off the deck. I could see that the chain gets close to the pivot pin. OK...now I have another engine in the future using all these new parts. $hit....it never stops (thank God). ;D

I was also looking at his new rear wheel set up Mike, unfortunately for me it looks like he is only selling them with 17 inch rims, do you think Ken would sell just the hub with disc , carrier, caliper and sprocket...?

It's a smart alternative alright. Did they try this piece in his race engine? I wonder what the material looks like after some abuse.

all is good guys, but coming from 500's and other motors, never having worked on a 750, I cant understand why nobody makes a proper slider tensioner like in any modern motor = no wheels revolving at crazy rpm's. i am pretty confident there must be something that can be cannibalized form other motors. my 500/4 uses one from a CBR600 for instance

KOS at M3Racing has the slider type for his racers and those of us with play racers motors. According to CycleX promo readings, there is some shortcoming, having to do with milling the decks, that makes their roller type superior. I am not qualified to judge. The KOS supplied slider type is a way cool part, anyway.

Hehe, probably.  Although I told them I'd pay for the heavy duty Kibblewhite studs and they said they were using those anyway.

I'm usually a follower to the party.........but I got my 'new design' tensioner and HD-chain in November when I stopped at Ken's shop.  I plan to install it this summer.  Ken has also designed a novel way to flush the plumbing in the john..........its worth a visit ;D ;D

Bert
I read about this tensioner in another thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=106568.0 and could not resist to order, just a few clicks and price + shipping relatively low.
Have them home waiting to be installed together with new chain, sprocket, cam, heavy duty primary chains from Germany and all other new stuff draining my wallet :-)

sorry to go against the flow but i dont think this type of tensioner is a good idea in a high performance engine , the weakness will always be the wheels regardless of what they are made of .

I tend to agree and why I asked if they used this set-up in their roadrace engine.

In a perfect world I would like a set up like the 550 ....a long blade with a gentle arc and sizable contact area. Honda did it for the 750 when they were using the double cam head on the SOHC case. They also used a primary gear as opposed to chains (another thing I'd like in a perfect world).
The problem with the KA Performance piece is when you really mill and deck it moves the tensioner in an there is less contact area. Th chain also comes close to the retaining pin.
Everything is a compromise I guess.

No they didn't, but it was the rr engine and the slipper type tensioner that got Kenny looking for something better....like the mls headgasket! The dragracer will have one in it, Kenny believes in it, so do I. Wheels always the weak pt.....yes, if they wear out or distort cause of heat.100C going to distort or melt! Its the lower wheel that's the key along with material used.My .02. Bill
