I'm not a fan of the cover either.  It's an unusual color now, but I think it was a little more common back in the '70s.  Still, there can't be that many in this particular combination with the hideous (IMO) 'cookie cutter' wheels.

In sandcast news, I scored a $20 K0 grab handle from the same guy I bought the ears from.  I'm eyeing a nice used 18 inch rim for the back.  If I can pick that up, and my current front rim isn't rusty inside, I should be able to get away without chroming any rims.  I strongly prefer good used parts to anything new, or even re-chromed.

Whether one likes the color or not keeping it original is always the best way to go. Especially the Porsche.

Yes, my favorite SF film, and pretty much the best car chase in film history.

Is that why I ended up on Craigslist drooling over fastback Mustangs late last night ;D ;D

Wrinkle tank is out for paintless dent removal, and the bike is getting put up on a milk crate or jack stands at the shop so I can pull both wheels tomorrow.

Clean but the wheels look wrong, not period correct.

Busy morning.  Wrinkle tank came back from Dent Dynamics, and it looks amazing.  I broke the original unicorn triple removing the forks.  I'm not sure if it was broken already, or if I was a little too ginger with it, but I have a replacement ready to go.  I brought a big bag of greasy fasteners and bits to wash up & de-rust back to my house.

Swing arm is plated, not sure how ill remove it, but it's the correct piece.

Once the frame is bare, I'm sending it off to the painter. Our cabinet isn't big enough to fit a frame.

LOTS of work left tt.  I've done my math however, and it will be well worth my effort ;)

I'm happy with the headlight bucket I have, so only thing holding me from paint are tank stripes...they will be my next purchase.

I'm in love with that rust remover crap...dump a bunch of grimey rusty fasteners into a container, let 'em soak for a few days in the solution and voila:

And :) Look what Bill Benton's giving me a great deal on 8) 8) 8)

Sandcast cylinders and head! Look closely at where the cylinders meet the case and you can see the difference between sandcast and diecast.  And...the seat latch I need :D

Gooooooooood Morning Greggo!

Bill is the man, glad he is back.  Bent fin on the head looks to be easily repairable, will you give it a valve job too?

I'll have to check it out first.  Did you get a PM from Bill about the oil tank?

I hope it's not a silly question but what is the difference between a "wrinkle" tank and a later tank?

JDS, if you look through the gas cap onto the top of the hump inside the tank you will see a group of longitudinal creases where the tank was formed, I assume on later tanks they changed their tooling to get rid of the creases or wrinkles..... I'll see if i can find a pic..

Here you go...

Thanks, of course now I'm going to have to go out in my shop and check my pile of used tanks.  I just spent the last eight hours going through other members builds, psyches me up to start my own!

Down to a bare frame finally.  I have to get the chrome removed from the swing arm and side stand before I can send all the frame parts out for paint.  I found a local zinc plating place for the bolts (decided to plate them), and it sounds like they can remove chrome from the swinger and stand as well.  My dad's convinced me to rebuild the sandy motor instead of throwing the K1 motor back in.  Paid Bill Benton off for the sandcast head and cylinders, so I can rebuild it right.  However, I did pull the valve cover off the K1, and it was sparkly clean/low mileage looking in there...zero visible wear on the cam lobes...minty looking early K1 motor...hmm, gotta find something to do with that one ;D ;D
