I'm conflicted on mine, I have a nice low mile  F1 that I ride and I did the entire resto on my K0 hot rod. The sandcast fell into my lap, it turned out not to be a bike my buddy rode, he never titled it. I found a little history but I'm less attached to it than my two other bikes. Then there's the dollar aspect. Will I ever own another one? nope.

I have a couple other bikes to keep me busy too, and a nice running/riding '71 500/4 that is genuinely my favorite.  I probably will sell the sandcast after getting some enjoyment out of breaking it in.  It will give me the opportunity to upgrade to a good classic car project and really utilize the knowledge in my dad's shop.  They know how to take a crusty early Porsche or VW and really make it shine.

Back to the bike.  I picked up a few parts the Honda shop had to order for me.  The price is right compared to re-chroming, but the quality...that's another matter.  Both originals appear to have had chrome finishes, but the new ones are zinc coated.  The castle nut being clear, with spotty finishing, and the nicer looking swing arm nut being yellow zinc.  To boot, the threads on the swing arm nut need a tap run through them.  It was something like $9 for the pair, so I'm not going to cry over it, but it looks like I'll be cleaning mine up or buying nice used ones...

No, I just cleaned up my old ones...they're a little chewed, but still have shiny chrome.

Picked up the goodies to paint the cases: DE1615 Duplicolor, gel paint stripper, self etching primer, and degreaser...only got as far as stripping them down, and that was a messy job.  I got about 95% of the 3mm of black house paint off the damn things before running out of time.  I'm not sure if I should use the primer between the duplicolor and the motor...I'll do some reading on that, or chime in if you have advice, please.

I am totally stuck on this bearing.  It's in the bottom case, and it's the only bearing that stays behind after removing the guts of the motor.  Anybody?  It can only go out to the left, and to push it out it seems like I have to tap on the inner race from the right side...I couldn't find any info on removing it.

Thank you, Mark.  I bought all the transmission bearings, and all black crank shells from Yamiya.  They were much cheaper for the bearings than most sources.

I just bought all the engine ball bearings from Yamiya and it was $100 including the shipping.  Couldn't come close locally.  Nice to see you making progress.  I wish my project was going quicker.

Yep, for those prices I'm not going to even shop around for a better deal.  I needed the crank shells, and an engine oil seal kit also so it was a no brainer to go with them.

Progress Progress Progress!  Cases got painted with Duplicolor DE1615, two coats on each half, and two on the oil filter cover.

Rebuilt the oil pump with a kit from Elan.

The spring on the left is new, the one on the right is old, and clearly worn.

I got new screws for mounting the gauge rings, and I wanted to see how they looked all put together...NICE :)

Oh, yeah! Been using stainless on mine, where Honda does not provide new chromed bits. Harder to polish, but looks nice.

Sold my CA95 today...kinda sad, but it's going to a good home.  Anyway, that wad of cash was burning a hole in my pocket, so...why not spend sixty thousand yen on a Yamiya seat ;D ;D ;D It was the December special for about $100 off the regular price.  This one doesn't have the red foam, but I'm not spending $300+ extra to have the right color foam...the pan has the wrong number of holes for my VIN anyway, so why be a snob about it, right!?

I had some time while I was waiting for the buyer, so I finished up my taillight and fender with some cleaned up hardware.

Bye bye Baby Honda :'( :'(

It's a sad day when one of your fav bikes heads down the road but counting all that cash makes the grieving process so much easier!

60,000 yen for the seat.....ouch!

It was the $90 shipping that hurt!  But, with the discount it was pretty much free shipping...so :D It has the shiny skin, just like the red foam seat...the foam is the only difference.  That yen total included 10 (2 spares) new tappet screws for the top end too ;)  Also spent $200 today on CycleX primary chains and their new primary tensioner ;D  I'll have everything I need to button up the bottom end = Yippee!!!!!

There goes most of that cash ;D ;D

Some one will have to fess us as to who made the shorty chain guard.  My K0 has the longer one one it now but I'd like to put the shorter one on it instead.

Happy New Year!
Just dropped by for some inspiration, thanks for the lift!
Heck, my own heart thumped when I saw your '95 being loaded, too. I almost hate seeing the ones I build go away, but they do get good homes, and I get new projects. Not a bad trade, really.

See you found baffles for the CA95 Greggo. Chrome looks great!

I'm putting my CA78 up for sale but still have the memories of War building it.

I don't think I'll miss it much.  :D

Happy New Year to you too Mark!  If I can inspire a guy like you, I must be doing alright here :)

I felt sad the minute we loaded the 95 into his van, but he will treat it well, and plans to fully restore it.  The cash let me buy a few big ticket items for the sandcast, and when I sell that one, it's gonna help me buy a house ;)

I got the baffles through Ohio Cycle, and they weren't cheap :o But, the new owner paid me to buy/install them for him, so it was no sweat ;)

Those early model Hondas are a nightmare to work on...my hands hurt just thinking about it ;D ;D

My transmission and main bearings for the sandcast have come in from Japan, so I'll work on those this weekend.  But, my primary chains and tensioner won't show up until the next week.  The bearing in the case I had asked about earlier popped right out with a few good taps around the inner race, and I'll feel much better about the entire build with all of those replaced.  With all the new bearings and chains, this motor should be SMOOTH, SMOOTH, SMOOTH :D :D
