Excellent! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Instead of possibly torquing the sandcast head removing the spigots, I had them welded, and I'll have to grind them back to smooth.  The cylinders are back from the machine shop, and the top end is nearly ready to assemble :D

I received my tank decals from Classic Cycle City, so my tins are all ready to go out for paint too!!! (now that I have $$$ to pay for the job ;D ;D )

Next week after I get the cylinders on.  I got brand new carb boots last week, so I'll be able to test it out as I go.

Wow :o

15-months...Man, I think back to when I got the bike home, and everything I've been through until now, and it seems like a very long time ago.  I guess if I can finish this bike in under two years I'll be doing very well considering the limited amount of time I have to put into it lately.

The painter gave me an estimate today that was higher than I'd expected, so I picked up my parts.  He was right about a few things...the reproduction side covers need some work, and the tank needs a skim coat of bondo.  But, he wasn't making me feel like he could give me a good match for the NOS fork ear I have anyway.  After thinking it over, and realizing I would likely have to spend close to his number to get the results I want, no matter who does the job, I decided to buy a K0 ruby red set from Yamiya.  Only the wrinkle tank was original anyway...I still have all these parts, and a complete set will show up at my door next week looking as good as can be.  I'll save the wrinkle tank and sell it with the bike, or use it for another project.  It's a pretty big deviation from my original course, but I think I'll be happy.

In other news, I've borrowed a rig for truing the wheels so I can get some rubber on there soon!  It has tapered clamps so it can be used with different sized axles.

I'll post pics when I get the painted parts, because you know that stuff's gonna look gooooooooooood :D :D

Don't blame ya for buying new, Greggo.  The cost of quality labor and paint materials has gotten so high, it doesn't pay to go that route.
The big question is how will it affect the value of the bike?

This bike is mostly un-original, and I think the value depends on how discerning a buyer finds it.  The wrinkle tank isn't going anywhere, and maybe I'll have it painted to match the set eventually.  It was the only painted part that's original to the frame.

Correct - it will depend on the buyer.  Having the tank stay with the bike is a good idea and selling point.

I have used this same setup for truing and it also worked very well for balancing the tires.  8)

The cylinders are on, and I ground down the welds on the intake ports today so I could torque the head down..the intake boots slip on and stay snugly.

Head torqued..

Thanks Stev-o!  I'm going to mask off the bottom, put a dummy valve cover on and paint the top end next time.  The head is still bare, and the cylinders haven't been painted since the oven baked the last coat off.  I wasn't able to get it done when it was all apart before I got help putting it back together.

The larger S&W valve springs and retainers in this head required some material be taken from the cam towers where they meet the top of the exhaust side retainers.  They weren't fully seating on the pucks until I took off enough material.  I used the same pencil grinder from the intake spigot job (not the one pictured earlier).  I got them fully seated, slipped the cam and sprocket in...and then the cam chain slipped off the crankshaft's sprocket.  It was at the end of the day, and after ten seconds of fumbling with it, I said screw it until I'm fresh..I wanted to get home and open that big box from Yamiya :D  I really couldn't be happier with the finish.

I can't wait to get the engine in the frame, and turn this into a roller...it hasn't been fun working on this bare frame without a motorcycle lift.
