The solution itself is about $23 a gallon from the O'reilly near here, and I'm very happy with the results.  The big selling points for me were that it doesn't eat into the remaining material, and that it will continue to prevent flash rust, meaning I don't have to rinse/fill it immediately.  It's also reusable, so I can clean many of the bolts up with it when I tear down this week.

I'm happy to offer the review.

If I had bought the 5-gallon bucket and filled the tank to the brim, I would've done nothing else too.  But, I didn't want to spend $100+

did the same as you, put a gallon in a cb750 tank, kept shifting it every couple days to reach new areas...after two weeks Evaporust had done next to nothing...I ended up getting it good with Phosphoric acid.  I tried the same gallon on several other lightly rusted parts with similarly disappointing results.  Maybe I got a bad batch or something?  But not thrilled about risking  another $23...been getting good results with $1.89 gallons of vinegar.  Bums me out though that everybody else seems to have good results with it.

Evaporust is great to use... I used it on 2 tanks.. Came out great... I now use vinegar as it's cheaper.... It takes longer but I do not mind waiting.... I always use a pressure washer for rinsing out the inside once treated.. Helps get any left over sludge out...

I looked online and there are two that use the same spelling.  I used the one called Evapo-Rust, but there's also one I saw online that was called Evaporust.  I had misunderstood you and thought you said you had to do nothing.  Did you clean the varnish from the inside before the rust stuff?

CycleX made good on the fork seals.

Had a date with a stripper today I used the gel (can't remember the brand) paint remover.  Next it's off to the paint-less dent removal man to work his magic.  I was relieved to find no damage to the emblem mounts!






Then I had some fun stripping the bike down.  Removed the air box, carburetors, battery box/electric panel, tool tray, wiring harness, horn, gauge clamps, coils, ignition switch, passenger pegs, drive chain, and some other bits I can't remember.  All the bolts and screws will be dipped in the Evapo-Rust left over from the tank treatment, and I'll decide if they need plating after that. 

It's been a good week, and I might come back to the shop Friday to break it down to the frame.

It is very nice to have a break, and it's the longest paid vacation I've taken in my life so far.  My buddy's getting married in Peru next summer, so I'm saving up for that, and just taking it slow on this one.

Here's the bike after a little stripping.  She's a tease though and kept her shorts on today

Wiring harness isn't pretty, but it's not hacked up, so I might try to save it.  Plumber's tape and silicon tubing is on the list for today's trip to the local shops.




I took all the bolts and screws from yesterday and they're soaking in the rust remover for a day or two.  I'll sandblast the brackets before priming and painting...Not really sure why I threw them in there

Finally The tank felt like the most daunting task, so I'm happiest to have that work out of the way.  It's in my dad's hands, and he'll get the dent guy over in the next week or two.  I need to find a nice left fork ear, and then I'll have everything ready for paint.  Oh, also need to find the gold stripe decals.  Once I have some painted tins for motivation, this project will start really moving!

Still tackling the rust on the rim. 



The hardware came out much nicer.  I rinsed with warm water, then air dried and sprayed it all with WD40.

Yeah, I might not have to plate them.  I hope it works on the rim, but there's a whole lot of rust to eat up.  I took a flat head screwdriver to the big chunks this morning, and there were a lot.  I'll give it a week in the cooler, but I have to keep spinning it around because it only gets about six inches at a time.

I get a sick satisfaction out of blasting the crap off metal   That's the tool tray, electrical 'panel', horn bracket, rear brake switch bracket, seat mounting brackets, and the ignition switch bracket.



Drained the oil out of the K1 motor, and I still would like to know if this is one of those 'smooth' oil lines all the kids are talking about.

You are lucky to have access to a blaster, Greggo. (I did a few years ago but no longer).
Guessing you will do proper paint vs more durable powder coat.

Very nice having the blaster available indeed!  No PC for this bike, all parts will be painted.
