I let the worst part sit submerged in the solution for a day, and it's trying hard to eat up all the rust.  I'm still not sure if it will be worth re-chroming even after all the rust is gone.  I need some opinions on that.  Should I just blast it and see how it turns out?

It's not the cost of having it done, it's whether it will be safe.  New D.I.D rims are available for cheaper than the cost of re-chroming, but they have writing on the sidewall stating size and a D.I.D stamp.  This one's from Tews' K0, and it's not an early dramatically rolled rim, but it's much rounder than my other 18" rear hoops, and it only has a little D.I.D stamp in the center of the rim between two spokes.  It's much more correct than a brand new replacement, but I know some of the sandcast guys justify new hoops for safety reasons.  I want to use this one, I just want to know if it will be safe. 

I think I'll have to blast it over next weekend, and leave it at the shop so my dad's shop partner can check it out.  He restores old rare bikes, so he's sympathetic

Yeah, DID goes crazy labeling their rims, same thing for the one I bought for my Z1. 
It will stick out as a aftermarket replacement but at least it will look good.

Seeing the 16" rim when I laid eyes on this bike I knew it was gonna be a problem.

That won't sell at that price, and that one's been for sale for months.  There were sixty thousand of those hubs on bikes sold, plus however many spares were made, so it's not like the rolled rims that were only on maybe ten thousand bikes. 

I might use a wire wheel on the rim, there is one at the shop.

It'll run with some work. I think it can go on the highway, but I wouldn't go on the freeway.

It could just be the lighting/camera.  That early of a bike should have no number lotus root pipes.

I might paint the CB160 motor but darn, the more you redo the less original they become. Well, until I get the bike it's just speculation. The Dream turned out nice so this might also. Wish I had it here.

I showed my baby Dream to a gentleman yesterday who is looking to do a restoration.  He was also going to check out a '73 CB200 that's in excellent condition; much nicer than the CA95, but he said he thought the Dream bikes hold their value better.  I'm probably asking too much for my bike, but I think it will sell for over $1500.  It's a turnkey bike, and the black plate is actually a big selling point here.

It's a tough market right now, and that price wouldn't include all my spares   Besides, it's a ten-foot bike right now.  Everything needs chrome or paint, except the frame, but I like it the way it is, so I don't do it

In good news, I scored on some apparently NOS fork ears for $85 shipped.  I've never seen them with black primer, or whatever that is.  No idea if they're real Honda parts, but they're new, so I'm happy for that price. 

Just need tank stripes and I'm ready for paint...beautiful paint!

Yes, I can!   Don't blame you, if asked, I explain that if they dump it and walk, I'm the one who get's screwed. I normally ride it in front of them to show how it runs/shifts.
Once, a guy put $500 cash deposit in my hand. I did let him test ride, he bought it later that day.

He turned around so fast I didn't have time to say anything else.  I could tell he didn't want the bike, and I got the feeling he was going to thrash it...no thanks.


I have a painter for all the bodywork, and he can get the paint and everything.  He did a '74 911 targa for the shop we're trying to sell right now, and it's gorgeous.  It's a really weird combination: Gazelle on Red, but that's how it came special ordered from the factory.
