WM6 3.5 x 18 rear wheel
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:11:39 PM »
Another wheel/tire thread yay! :P

Anybody running a WM6 3.5 x 18 rear wheel on their CB750? I have done a bunch of searching around on the forum and have found people mention they were planning on running a rim this wide but haven't actually found anyone that is.

I just bought a new WM3 2.15 x 18 non dimpled rim I was thinking of using up front with a WM6 in the rear.

I put a 3.50 x 17 on mine with a 140/70 tire. Not many miles on it, but it looks cool. Really dropped the ride height which wasn't an intended consequence, but I'll live with it. Anyway, Oh yeah I've got a rolling chassis with a really wide 18 on the rear. A 75F it is, so its a disc brake.

On the K, you'll run afoul of the brake stay up front. Can be moved to the outside of the bracket for clearance.

Thanks Ron,
Are you talking about the brake stay on the front of the swingarm? I am running a box swing arm, wonder if that will give me more room...

Yes. The brake panel stay rod travels to the front of the lower side of swingarm at a slight angle towards the centerline of bike. The rim will clear it, but the tire may not, depending. I had mine repositioned (moved and rewelded) but a less elegant fix is to bolt the stay to the outside of the bracket.

Diff swingarm, I don't know.

The tire, spread that wide, may (will) also hit the stock chain cover.

In the old days  8)  i just used to put a bend in the rear brake arm, that fixed the tire clearance problems... ;)

Running a 3.5 x 18 on my 76k . I like the look. I am running a pretty tall tire. 130/90. Also I  changed the swingarm to a 78 which is a little wider and longer.

Nice!
Can you post your tire sizes? That front looks really cool.

Front is a 110/90 18, rear is a 130/90 18. If I had it to do over again I might have tried a 140/80 on the rear but it might not have cleared the brake arm. I would have liked a little less profile on the rear.

Obviously this setup would affect trail so would it be enough to go with a rear tire with a smaller diameter by running a 140/70/18 to offset this difference? Also I was thinking that given the shape of the swingarm and brake arm that this may open up the ability to run a 150 tire. Anyone do anything like this with success?
