CL is out of control!
« on: February 12, 2013, 05:43:25 AM »
Anybody else getting hit with "meet me for coffee" replies?

I have a few things for sale and not that I mind the pictures but this is out of control! Everyday, all day, pics just keep coming. New in town, look me up, I love text messages BS.

Just about ready to say the heck with this. Idiots ruin it for everybody.

I get random texts on my phone with stuff like that.  I have never created a CL add either.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

yeah, it's retarded...all my ads state NO TEXTS PLEASE, and I don't even own a cell phone, but I still answer the telephone and hear some robot voice text message asking if I wanna trade for a broken George Foreman Grill or something..."Hey man, interested in any trades?, I got a bunch of stupid ass broken junk that you might want to trade for...."click
If it works good, it looks good...

I sold an XS650 on CL a few months ago, it sold within an hour after I posted it and deleted the ad/post shortly after the buyer picked it up that afternoon yet I still get a text message from time to time asking about it.

Hahaha! Trying to sell a busted up CBR600 on CL right now and I can't believe some of the offers I am getting. I know it's not gold, but damn! Offer a realistic value for it. I always go by the "If I were to sell it, what is the least I would take?" clause. It has turned into a bunch of people who think they're at a yard sale or just assume everyone NEEDS to sell their item for the cash. Frustrating as all piss right now! Don't get me started on the trade offers.....

Makes me not want to list any of the things I have to sell soon on the CL after hearing horror stories like these.
Hopefully this guy that looked at both steps up and buys my bike and the pair of speakers to make wifey happy.
I don't really want to have to mess with CL if I don't have to.

I can't really complain about the buyers. I price my stuff to move for the most part. Granted, selling motorcycles is a different game.

I'm just fed up with the scam emails even though I spell out my phone number.

Worst offer was $100. Sorry, but no way! Got plenty of text offers, but that doesn't mean anything until you show up to see the bike. Guy came out and says he wants it and is supposed to pick it up tonight. Wants the motor to go into a four wheeler, but until cash in hand and bike on trailer....I'm not holding my breath.

Tell him to throw in some real cherry bombs and whiz bangs to sweeten the pot.

Would it be worthwhile to get a second cell phone, one of those pay by the month go-phones, just for when you sell stuff on CL?  Use the phone and then just not renew it after the sale.  I would be pissed if I ended up getting junk texts on my real cell phone long after the sale and the CL ad was taken down.

When selling on craigslist is it a good idea to spell out a couple of the numbers in your phone number if you give it out in the ad.  This can help defeat the bots...

Yeah, I started to do that. I was wondering why people would spell it out and finally realized after enough spam mails!

Give them the street address to the local police station and forward the email to the police detective in charge of fraud crimes...
Give them his last name to ask for...
