baffles

The CR750 is almost finished, but i need to fit a set of baffles to my meg'as whats the best way to go, do i need to cut off the reverse cone on the end, fit a perforated tube packed with sound insulation, and then refit the cone? i would like to make it de tachable, so i can use open meg'as at donington in august, any information or ideas would be appreciated,

You might be able to fabricate some baffles that fit through the reverse cones that seat a little deeper than normal in the pipe.

I suppose the best solution depends on how much fabrication work you're willing to do and how much of a performance hit you're willing to take.  If you're main priority is replica authenticity then any silencer will be a hindrance.  You could make a removable end cap affixed with pop rivets (like on moto-x bikes) so that the silencer is easily serviced in the future.  Or you can do your best to jam a perforated silencer and steel wool/ fiberglass packing material inside the megaphone and then slip a bolt straight through the end but that looks naff and blocks airflow.

I looked at this too Tony but luckily the Donington track day I got onto in August 2012 was full noise. They ahve about one a year! There is another solution though that I reckon you can do with three 6mm holes at 120 degrees around the reverse cone so as not to have to butcher the pipes. If you get some decibel killers, 2" ones that are about 8 inches long, I experimented by wrapping an extra 1mm thick steel strap around the wide end so it fits snug in the reverse cone exit. I then drilled the strap and db killer at 120 degrees, 10mm holes and fitted three blind hole threads - like hollow threaded pop rivets if you now what I mean?

Then, with the holes in the mega cone, you can gently insert the baffle and fit the top 6mm bolt through and into the db killer end to attach to the threaded insert. Ince on is in, add the other two and slowly tighten each by the same amount. It creates a kind of dynamic tension that keeps the db killer straight down the middle of the pipe. Keep going till all three are nice and tight et voila!

Biggest cost is the db killers, I think mine were about 17 quid a pair but then it's just time. If I can find mine tomorrow I'll show you a pic. Of course I haven't had to drill my cones and fit these permanently yet as I had the full noise day at Donny so haven't proven they stay put but as the three bolts cause opposing forces and you can always use allen heads and lockwire them, I'm pretty confident it'll do the trick...remove then when you want more fun! :-)

Thanks Simon, would like to see pic if possible, where do i obtain these db killers?  i went to last years donington crmc meeting and that one was un-silenced, so i just presumed it would be same this year, are you doing any meetings this year? all the best

Tony ive had a lot to do with my pipes and keeping  the noise down. Best thing to do is i send you a pm and my phone no and we can have a chat. I tried the DB killers, and bought 4  they were no good at all.

There is a place here in the states that has perforated tubing in different Diameters and the holes in the tubes
I have a Bassani race system on my Gs1100 and fabbed my own (Performance and street baffles) I had to make the end plate
to fit the ID of the pipe and the OD of the tubing but had my laser cutter do that for me (I can have that done for you also)
