Whoops! Things you probably should not have done....
« on: March 06, 2013, 01:06:52 pm »
Recently I pilfered my wife's toothbrush to clean some carbs.
She was upset.  8)

Cleaned my carbs by boiling them them in lemon juice. That in itself wasn't the problem because it actually did a good job cleaning the carbs, the problem was that I did it inside the house on the kitchen stove. I did use a cheap pan I bought at a dollar store but boiling lemon juice combined with just a pinch of gasoline residue on the carbs stinks really (and I do mean REALLY) bad. It stunk up the whole house for a day.

Yep, everyone's done a house stinker at one time.  Mine was removing the forks & deciding to drain the old oil into a measuring cup, unbelievable smell..

my wife works a 24 hr shift as an RN....Friday to Saturday.
once the four kids (3,3,6&9yrs old) go to bed friday nights, i do work.  last few weekends it was painting engine parts.  Duplicolor engine enamel.
it was probably 11:30pm....baking parts in the oven, kinda like cookies, you wanna look inside and see how they are coming. ::)
opened up the oven after the first 10 minutes and the fumes/heat that came out set off the smoke detector in our kitchen.
woke the whole d@mn house   :o  buncha crybabies  ;D
had to air out the house, too

My oldest son has Type 1 diabetes which basically means he's insulin dependent, he's on an insulin pump now but before the pump he had to use syringes and had a whole bunch left over after he got the pump. Well anyhow I come home and find out both my boys were taking some of those syringes, breaking off the needle then blowing compressed air in where the needle was to see how far they could blow the plunger/piston part of the syringe out. There was pieces of insulin syringes ALL OVER the place, all over the garage, the driveway, the lawn. I thought it was so cool I tried it myself. Luckily I don't have an insulated garage or they'd have been sticking out of the insulation. :)

Took my wife to a indoor pistol range.  She liked to use a .22 target pistol we had.  I cautioned her that in the event of a hangfire, just keep it pointed downrange and wait for a few seconds.  I would clear it after.  Sure enough she had one and started to turn towards me almost immediately. The round went off and I could hear it buzz by my head.

Took her fishing and while I was baiting her hook she dropped the rod and I ended up with the hook imbedded in my thumb.

Cleaned engine parts in the dishwasher ::), everything but the block, only because it wouldn't fit ;D.  The ex was a little pissed when she opened the dishwasher and didn't find dishes.  Worked a treat though ;D.  I have boiled carbs on the stove too and stunk out the house but I thought ahead on that one and opened up all the doors and windows first so the smell wouldn't linger

Continued to ride the CB another mile after the oil light came on.  Still had to push it 2 miles home.

Cam shaft and new cylinder head later everything is good to go.

Just a note.  If the oil light comes on stop.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200.  Just stop.

Thought I could get away with polishing my engine covers in the heated patio during the winter. Well, dang rouge got all over the place and was even tracked into the house. She was not happy with me. I guess it was sort of hard to get the dust out of the wicker chairs. ;D One good thing that came out of this is she agreed I needed a shop which was built the following year... 8)

Lets see...what other stupid things have i done...

pulled the engine out of the 66 stang with the trans attached...didn't drain the trans fluid and left the yoke out. Pretty quick way to turn the garage floor into a skating rink

Cooked painted parts in the house oven

Used muratic acid to clean a tank...and then dumped it out in the back of the yard. Grass hasn't grown there for 2 years

Removed the carbs off the 76 GL1000, freshly drained gas, went to tack weld a float post and WHOOF...a big fireball in the garage as soon as the arc was struck

Fixing an old 2stroke snowmobile. Pulled the throttle lift so i could spray carb cleaner in it and let it soak for a couple days. Did that for 3 days and thought "i should turn the motor over to make sure the engine is free" and pulled the start rope with all my might...with the kill switch in the "ON" position...that sucker cranked up, WIDE open, and took off across the field with me still attached by one arm to the handle bar. It was a fun ride till it hit the fence...

Told this one girlfriend of mine she was "filling out a little bit"...
You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

Tonight I looked at a set of Konis on a Kawi Zephyr.. The spring was not linedup with top retainer, I moved it over and it pinched part of my thumb between the spring and collar. About 1/8 inch of skin doubled over,I asked the guy for help, he wanted to pull on my thumb to get it out .. I coulda done that.. Got him to push down on the spring a bit and got it out..
Still lol..ing about him wanting to pull it out..

Lost my virginity when I was really drunk (13 or 14 years old).  It was with one you would not tell anyone about and I still will never forget what she said when sticking it in the wrong hole.  She said, "That's not it". And I said, "you do it then".  She did.  :)

we poured my drunken buddy into his car, his wife had rolled down the window first. I rolled it up, being drunk too I hadn't thought about why she rolled it down. With the wives driving we headed home. I noticed his brake lights, then back-up lights came on, then all the lights went out then back on and away they went. He was trying to get his head out the window and kicked the floor shift into reverse.

Probably shouldn't have been stick welding with 5P from a bucket truck over a wooden pallet leaned against the wall. There was a full 5 gallon gas can hidden behind it. No, it didn't light off.
