Finally......got bike.
« on: March 31, 2013, 07:32:27 PM »
Hey,
I joined a year ago and finally can do an intro.  I have been searching for awhile.  As of Thursday evening, I am a SOHC owner.

I found a 78' dresser.  Terrible maintenance.  Most broken things were wired or glued back together.  Must have used 40 grit paper on the tank and on the #4 header pipe for some reason.   I started it up and it sounded like it had gravel in the valvecover.  I told him I would pass.  I back out to leave, and he runs out wanting me to make an offer.  I guess I offered too much at half his asking price, because I now own it.

It definitely isn't a restoration candidate.  So, this weekend, I tuned it, bobbed it, lowered it,  painted it, and rode it.  What fun.  My summer project is 80% done in one weekend.  Guess I'll have to look for another one.  The only things left to do are find/install headlight assy, wire it to the minimum, upholster seat, and shine it up.

Have pictures.  Guess I'll figure out your posting procedure another day.

Thanks for the site,
Mike

Thank you guys for the welcome.

The gravel in the valve cover sound was a six inch long mud-dobbers nest in one of the right pipes.  With the mufflers off, it came shooting out and the rattling sound went away.  Easy fix. :D :D
