online manuals
« on: February 27, 2013, 11:24:25 pm »
I got a 1996 cutlas recently (boring) but it has only 62 k and gets almost double mpg as my awd astro, so I figure I'll use it up. It atarts and runs like a champ, a 3.1l v-6, but First I have to deal with a lower manifold gasket leak.  I'm finding it a bit more involved than something I should do without a service manual but that's never deterred me  before. I tore into it today and it will prolly be ok, but I was trying to find a manual for it online but can't seem to find one that is free.

Anyone got a site that has public domain (free) for this sort of stuff?  I bet I finally find one after the job is done.

I found a good poster to get me through this intake manifold.

http://williamgreen.hubpages.com/hub/Chevy-31-Liter-Engine-Leaking-Intake-Manifold-Gasket-and-Warped-Heads

Must be one of the things that Too Big to Fail Corporation should have recalled but didn't. Most lasted just past the warranty period and then blew out.Enough to have a class action settlement.

It is pretty ripped apart by now,  plastic gaskrt failure was obvious like they all do.  Got the second desigh lm gaskets not going to bother with the with pulling heads apart they're fine. Hate to have something that far apart in the driveway.

I will want a manual some way it has a really good odometer for a '96 and 20+'s mpg ain't corolla great but sounds better than the 14's so 'i'll prolly just try give it the mileage that a 17 yo car should have until I can trade it or....

bump...

I think I caught it just in time. Plastic gasket was brittle and cracked on an outside water jacket. Glad it wasn't in mid summer heat to learn of this apparent engineering defect.

I guess  the ones larger than the 3.1 of that vintage even have a sturdier intake manifolds that can swap, but nothing too catestrophic and luckily the 10 miles driving I did after it started puking was all well under 0'  C and after it cooled.

I think my mom had a 3.8 in a buick that was a decade older but never had this trouble. Might be a very similar motor with minor mods.

62  k on that boxy squaremobile. Took it to have the codes read and all pass. Little old lady mobile.I'll prolly drive it till the wheels fall off if no one cashes me out.

Bump.

POS won't start. Ran fine before except for puking coolant as fast as I put it in.

New LIM gaskets and no sound of valves hitting pistons, but crank and no fire.

Online manual s.... bump.

I don't have my Mitchells available but I would look at the cam sensor first. I am assuming you disturbed it when you were doing the deed. This should have a cam sensor and crank sensor which controls a DIS pack. This is what I used to do when I had a real job :).
Contact me for affordable rotor drilling services at $55 each rotor. Same day service on CB750/CB500/CB550 rotors. Next day on everything else.

you have spark?the cam sensor might not stop the engine,id look at the crank angle sensor, you might have just knocked a wire elsewhere?if the oil sender isnt hooked up the fuel pump might not run?
