Looking for 'clutch' assistance on cb550
« on: March 08, 2013, 06:07:41 PM »
I got to putting the clutch back on after rebuilding the motor and everything seems to have gone pretty well.  I got the lifter plate bolted down against the towers, each bolt a little at a time.  Replace the oil seal and o-ring on the clutch adjustment lever and the o-ring on the dip stick.  New gasket etc.

When I fit the cover up to the case and bolt it down I have absolutely no upward movement available when i try and pull up the arm (that the clutch cable connects to).  I'm probably wrong, but I feel like I should have at least a little movement there as the cam pushes the arm into the lifter to disengage the clutch?  I know there will be mechanical advantage when I use the actual clutch lever but I'm not convinced everything is right here.

Thanks

James

undo the lock nut and adjust the screw untill the dot on the arm lines somewhere near the dot on the case.

I don't see any screws in the cover. Are you trying to move it with no screws holding it on? There is fractions of inch travel on the actuator pin. So very little matters! Also check the manual for correct adjustment. When in doubt read the directions! Okay I saw the screw and it takes a lot of pressure to release the clutch!

I have screws in there, not all, but enough. Everything is in pieces at the moment so connecting the clutch cable isn't really possible.

The arm won't go any further than shown in the pictures. Should I just leave as-is for the moment and move on with the assembly? I guess my concern is that there is something wrong inside the cases, obviously I would want to address that now.

Thanks

James

if the little push rod drops out of place as you install the cover itll all hang up and wont close properly,if the rod dropped right out the lever would be loose all the way, itll be ok.

the rod never gets miscued on assembly unless you have two ham fists.
