What type of cable lube is the Best ?
« on: November 16, 2014, 07:17:23 PM »
I want to lube my used oem cables to make them as smooth as possible and not have to do it as often;I think if it was possible to inject a light grease into them might be great.
What do you think is good ?

For Oem cables I use dri slide, most will say it doesn't need lube since it's Teflon lined.

I normally hang them, tape a tin foil funnel to the top end and fill with WD40. Leave a short while and then lube with fresh engine oil. I've tried cable grease before but find the exposed inner gets crud stuck to it which can find it's way inside.

Same here, hang them up but I use RemOil to spray the lubrication in the cable.

With a bit a patience you can revive old cables too.

For Oem cables I use dri slide, most will say it doesn't need lube since it's Teflon lined.

use it on all cables, far as I am concerned there is nothing better as it does not coagulate like a petroleum based lube that would attract dirt which eventually makes the cable even harder to pull.(my .67 :D)...Larry

I've used the basic 3 and 1 lightweight oil out of the small cans but agree that dino based products can get dirty. WD40 flush can help to clean out old ones.

Do you wash the cable out w/ WD as other posters have mentioned? I'm guessing flushing'em out would help. This stuff 'ZenaLube Moly-MCL' that I bought a while back could do the trick,I hope it's as good as dri slide,it has molybdenum disulfide in it.I've always used this commercially avail. cable lube aerosol spray which works initially but has to be done quite often.

Used to use the safety kleen vat when I had access to clean out crap.  Now I remove the cable, hang it up,  insert tip of DriSlide and keep it hanging until the stuff comes out the bottom...Larry

For freeing up crusty cables ATF should work for flushing, too.

Does anyone use graphite?

I haven't tried that Motion Pro aerosol spray yet.. I starting to seriously consider MoMo's suggestion on a dry type of moly type lube  ???
