Randakk spin on and carpy exhaust
« on: March 07, 2013, 10:06:29 PM »
I have one of Carpys exhausts and read that ill have to take the exhaust off every time I change the oil. If I use a randakk unit would I still have to remove the exhaust every time? Anyone have both? Thanks.

If you use that exhaust you will have to remove it to access the filter even with a Randakk unit with a spin on filter. tweakin had this setup and he ended up getting a different exhaust because of it.

Ok, thanks. Am I correct in thinking that I have to also remove it to change the stock filter or can I shimmy stuff around to pull out the filter on the stocker?

You are correct. If you get that pipe, you gotta take it off to change the oil. Its not that big a deal just make sure you buy plenty of extra exhaust seals.

Thanks a lot. I was hoping not to have to deal with that. I love the look and sound but may sell it now and get another. Anyone interested?

Is it a problem?
Taking off the exhaust is easy done. Change oil each driving season when the exhaust might be off anyway.

Not a problem, but an unnecessary one. I would think that if you were going to go to the trouble of knocking off someone else's design, you'd at least pick a good one! Too bad it's so time and resource consuming to engineer a proper product.   ;)  RR

I've been eyeing the Motad system, anyone know if that one needs to be removed for the oil filter service?

I have a set of motad on my parts bike, from the look of the picture, doesnt look like they need to come off for oil filter change.  I'll have a closer look later tonight

Hey Gold, is it for sale?

Haven't thought about selling as my current project came with pretty bad looking exhaust and I might be using this motad.  Not sure as I don't know how they sound

I ride wayyyy more than 1500 miles in a year. Probably change my oil twice a month in the summer time.  Taking the exhaust off for each oil change is a pain-  a pain that would be worth it for a track bike or something you don't ride much, but for daily driving it's a deal breaker, IMO.

There are a bunch of very similar looking exhaust systems that don't require you having to take off the header and are very comparable in price, if not cheaper. Considered real nice used?

I have a Motad on my 650 and am pleased as punch with it.  It is nice and quiet at idle, doesn't rape your ears while riding on the highway but still sings nicely at over 6000rpm and you can get the oil filter off easily ;D.  Here is a video of my bike with the Motad exhaust fitted.  Ignore the horrible sounding clutch knock, it really doesn't sound that bad, it's just the crappy phone camera.

Seems to me that you should be able to find a small enough filter to easily screw on between the pipes. It only has to fit the threads on the Randakk adapter, I have a 1300cc bike that holds more oil and it has a spin on filter thats barely larger than the paper filter in the stock housing of the CB. I agree its not that big of a deal to take the exhaust off but I dont want to deal with it.

Where did you see them and can you remove the filter without removing the pipes?

Let me look around and get back to you. They where very nica and around $400 or $500. But they would be the last system you buy for your bike.
And yes you can get the filter out.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.
